My Question or Issue

Hello!

I've been having this issue for a very long time. Whenever I start up my PC Spotify gives me an Error saying "The Spotify Application Is Not Responding" while Spotify actually does start..

It is annoying because I used to be able to control Spotify through my control panel on my keyboard but now it doesnt work straight up anymore as I have to go on the application first and choose a song because it doesnt save where I stopped listening on my playlist or doesn't start playing a song at all.

I've tried uninstalling Spotify and clearing out my Appdata and then installing Spotify again but no matter what I do I still get the error whenever I start up my PC.

I hope someone can help me fix this issue.

Have a nice day 🙂

Hey @Hatice_Kara.

Thanks for getting in touch!

We'd like to ask you to try to try to go to the settings of Spotify and to prevent it launches when you start up Windows. See if that changes anything.

We'd also like to ask you to take a look at this topic where other people had the same issue but have fixed it.

We hope this helps 🙂 Please let us know if you have further questions.

Have a nice day!

Hey, thank you for your response!

Sadly the thread did not help me..

Turning off the autostart of spotify did prevent me from getting an error message but thats not the point as I want spotify to start up when i turn on my pc.

As soon as I changed back the settings I started getting an error message again.

Hey @Hatice_Kara,

Did you try the following:

  1. "settings" in the chrome browser
  2. Click "Extensions" on the left
  3. Search for "google play music" app in the list and either uncheck to disable the app or just delete.

Regarding the startup, this might be a general computer-based issue. You can try disk defragmentation if you want and see if that helps. Also, check out the solution here to make sure you've reinstalled and deleted cache everywhere.

Let us know how it goes 🙂

I have the exact same problem at startup, a lot of time passed but still no fix I guess..

Can someone from Spotify give some advice? It would be very much appreciated.

Hi there @TheConfax,

Thanks for joining this thread!

Can you tell us if you've tried any of the previous suggestions in this post and if so, which ones?

What you can also try, are these steps:

  1. Press the windows button and the R key at the same time.

  2. You should now get the program Run - in it, type %appdata%.

  3. Once you've opened appdata, copy the Spotify folder there.

  4. Paste it into your regular C hard drive.

  5. Then from the C HDD, launch spotify.exe

Let us know how it goes!

Hi @Petya!

I did not try the older solution because in fact that is not a solution 😥

I will try to explain the problem better.

Sometimes opening Spotify causes that message ("The Spotify Application Is Not Responding") to appear.

That usually happens in 2 scenarios:

1) When I fully close Spotify and then I open it again very quickly (~5-10 sec.)

2) When I startup the PC if the launch at startup is on.

About the first scenario, no problem, maybe is a little bug which does not annoy me and does not occur often, but about the second at EVERY startup I see that prompt.

Disabling the launch at startup is not a solution at all, of course the program will not crash if we don't launch it.

I would like to open spotify at startup automatically without crashing, and even copying it to C:\  is not really a solution since at startup it would be loaded by %appdata%.

Also, I would like to add that even if I set Spotify to "Open minimized at startup", It won't open minimized but it opens fullscreen regardless.

Launch at startup is very buggy, so I would like this to be escalated to a developer or something for further assistance.

Thank you,

Carlo

Hey there @TheConfax,

Thanks for getting back in touch and for adding these details!

Just to confirm, does this persist if you toggle off Hardware Acceleration from the three-dot menu > View ?

You can try toggling this option off when the app launches with no issues and after you restart the app for the changes to take effect, shut down your device and wait a couple minutes before you switch it back on.

We'd also recommend making sure that all your drivers are updated to the latest version available. You can also try temporarily setting Spotify as an exception for any antivirus/firewall programs.

If these doesn't do the trick, it'd be helpful if you could give us some additional details so we can take a closer look:

Let us know how you get on! We'll be here if you need more help.

Have a lovely day 🙂

Eu também estou com dificuldades para executar as músicas no Spotify no Windows 7. Quando eu seleciono uma música para tocar, a música não se inicia e mesmo clicando várias vezes não toca. Quando fecho o aplicativo e abro, aparece esse erro "The Spotify Application Is Not Responding". Já desinstalei e instalei novamente e o erro continua aparecendo.

Mesmo fazendo tudo aqui que foi orientado, continua sem eu ouvir a música e aparecendo o erro.

Hey there @Felipe_1991,

Thanks for posting about this here in the Community!

We don't hope if we reply in English as it's the Community's official language.

This sounds slightly different than the issue described in this thread as you mention this happens when you try playing a song with no luck and restart the app. Just to confirm, does the issue persist after restarting your device?

You've also mentioned that reinstalling didn't help. In this case, if you haven't tried that already, we'd recommend performing a thorough reinstallation of the app with the steps mentioned in this Spotify Answer instead.

It'd also be a good idea giving it another try after checking the below:

  • Your Windows device and all drivers are updated to the latest version available
  • You're running the app as administrator
  • Try temporarily setting Spotify as an exception for any antivirus/firewall programs
  • Checking your host files following the steps here

If none of these do the trick, it'd be helpful if you could also add any details if this happens when using a different desktop device, the device you're using or any screenshots of what you see so we can take a closer look.

Let us know how you get on! We'll be right here if you need more help.

Have a lovely day 🙂

Ok, nevermind.

Even with disable hardware acceleration on, the message is still appearing.

Any other solutions? I would like to get in touch with someone who can actively debug this.

Is there anyone?

How long can it take for you to get me in contact with the development team?

It worked. I uninstalled and installed again, restarted the computer. One thing I did, before uninstalling spotify, I deleted the folder there in appdata, only after I installed it and it worked. Thank you very much for the information.

I have exactly the same problem. When the program is started it opens but does not play any music and if I close and open it again the problem continues. I've done all the recommended procedures in this post. My windows and drives are up to date. I don't know what else to do.

Hi, I am the original poster, truth is that there is no solution to this problem.

By chance I changed my HDD to a SSD lately, that solved the problem, but if I close/reopen the application too fast is it still there, so I’d say it’s all on hardware speed.

Spotify team just doesn’t care enough about their customers and is doing this since ages, I am a customer since 2013 and they never really cared about customers even back then.

They still cannot pull off a decent Apple Watch app, they cannot fix basic bugs, they add no functionality, Spotify is just not worth it anymore, I can’t even sort my playlist from mobile lol

Soon they will succumb to Apple Music, which is more integrated, functional, and actually has a tech support.

Cheers,

Spotify Team

This probably won't be seen but sometimes if you're disk usage his high, Spotify will load up the "The Spotify application is not responding." message. This happens to me too.
