unable to block a song

unable to block a song

For a few weeks now, everytime an albums I play finishes a song starts playing that i hate. I spoke to spotify support about this, and they confirmed that there is actually no way to block a song. Even though I am a paying user, I have no way to prevent being forecefed this song over and over again. Furthermore, support told me that it's basically my own fault - the songs are played cos they are my prefered content. Which it really isn't, I never play it by choice, and I always skip the song when it starts up. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Did anyone find a workaround for it? Support told me to wait a few more days and see if it fades out of my feed, but that's such bullocks - I've been waiting for weeks for it to dissappear and it just keeps popping up...

Hey @user-removed,

Thanks for posting here.

In case you're playing an album on your mobile and want to hide a song from that album, you can click on the three dot menu and choose Hide this song. That way the song will be skipped and not played.

If you don't see this option, it's a good idea to restart your device, log out and log back in again to see if that makes a difference.

Currently this option is not available on desktop. If you want to see it implemented, you can add your +Vote to this idea and Subscribe to the thread so you can stay up-to-date with any news on this.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. However, the referal is a bit useless, as you point me to an idea that was closed in March this year already.  Furthermore, seeing how things go in this community, it's obvious to me that the whole "ideas" concept is more a pacifier than anything else - a way to shut people up without actually doing something about the problem they experience.

I don't quite understand either why this would even qualify as an idea, or why it's up for debate. I would assume that I'm paying for a unified experience across all my devices, not for a different app on every device I use that just carries the same name and logo, but has conflicting functionality.

Yet here I still am, having blocked a song a thoroughly hate on my Android device, and still being forcefed that intollerable rubbish on a daily basis on my Windows device. Isn't that one of the reasons why people take a paid subscription in the first place - to have control over the songs we do, and don't, listen to?

Hey there @user-removed!

Thanks for getting back to us. We'd be happy to give you more info on our ideas sections and our features.

Ideas with the status Closed - Not enough votes are still looked at by Spotify and open for voting. The idea behind that status is quicker replies from us, meaning that we check new suggestions every 3 months after they have been approved, and transparency with what is being forwarded to the teams inside of Spotify.

When an idea reaches a certain number of votes it is brought to the correct people here for consideration and later they give us info if that is something that could be reality in the foreseeable future. This means that an idea might be great and coming at some point but after a longer time period, so we don't want to make any promises.

Spotify strives to have all available features live for as many devices as quickly as possible, but we have to admit that this isn't always the reality but we're working towards it. Another perk to voting for ideas and subscribing to them is getting updates as soon as we have anything to share on the matter.

Hope this information helps. Let us know if there's anything else we can do for you.

Just thought I'd give the community a little update here: a month later, and weeks after spotify support assured me the song would fade out of my feed, I'm still being forcefed that same damn song. I have not liked the artists or any the songs by the artist, and I skip the song every time it comes up. But spotify is still like "hey, thanks for your money, now you will listen to this **bleep**, like it or not...".

I gave Deezer a try the past month, and it's a real shame their library is still a bit chaotic. Because everything else they got right. It's still a bit premature to switch now, but give it time and I'm sure they'll surpass spotify. Still quite surreal though, to actually have to consider switching music service to be able to stop listening to a crappy song.
