[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

This is truly mind-boggling. Given that there is already an explicit tag, it should be trivial to include a toggle to filter out songs with explicit tags. There's got to be some ulterior reason for not including such a highly demanded, easy-to-implement feature.

Just sent a Facebook message to SpotifyCare asking why Spotify doesn't care 😂 about all these customers comments. And tweeted the Spotify CEO Daniel Ek asking him the same question.

100% agree this is a needed feature. I listen to Spotify at work in an open office and it sucks having to turn it off every time I get up for fear of an inappropriate song coming on.

Signed up for premium yesterday assuming this was a built in feature.  Will likely be unsubscribing if there isn't any movement on this soon.

It's such a simple/obvious addition it's staggering that it hasn't already been implemented, especially considering the hard part (tagging the songs) is already done.

Spotify are obviously ignoring this thread on their own forum so please can everyone also send Spotify their complaints, their contact details are here https://support.spotify.com/uk/article/how-can-i-contact-spotify/?in_footer when you get back a rubbish reply ask for the head of depart to contact you and keep working your way up. Let's not give them a moments peace ✌️

So we've all be asking for this feature since Feb 2012. Now 5 years later and Spotify have refused to do anything about this?!?... Seriously? The majority of us are paying customers and I'm sure the majority of us want to use Spotify in a 'family' environment and yet Spotify still seem to over look this somewhat significant aspect?!? Seriously, what is the issue with Spotify to ignore this request?

Keep contacting Spotify everyone, I have so far worked my way up the Executive Team (I am aiming for success or eventually speaking to the CEO Daniel Ek whichever comes first). Had a long phone call this afternoon with a member of the Executive Team about Spotify's duty of care to children as they allow users from 13 years old which are clearly children. I wouldn't accept that it simply be passed on as a good idea to the Development Team but that this is an essential child protection issue and as such should be a top priority at senior level within Spotify. The manager is going to get back to me with follow up (and if they don't I won't let it drop). Got this email afterwards as a summary from Spotify:

'Thank you so much for your patience during the phone call. I've discussed the matter with the head of our office. She agreed to pass your request to the head of our Community, as well as to Press representatives, and I've just done that. I promise I will keep you updated with the status of your query.'

Get onto Spotify chat to get a live operator who will give about 50% cut and paste spotification and 50% real concern - real enough to pass you on to the higher powers. Just keep on working at it

The very second pandora releases a premium family plan, Spotify loses my money. No way to filter out explicit lyrics, despite years of consumer requests is just asinine.
