[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

How does Spotify not have an Explicit filter for all content? Maybe Amazon or Apple should take my money instead.

This is really silly.  I select a non-explicit song to make a station and we have it on 5 speakers in the house during a 11 year old birthday party with all age family members and 40 mins in there is a explicit song screaming profanities!!  This is not okay.  I should be able to turn off music that is not appropriate for my children to listen to or I guess I can't use spotify which is a choice I should not have to make.  Come on people this is not a hard one. I am not asking you to filter certain sexes, races or agendas I am just saying I don't want to be a hypocrite and tell me kids that certain words are off limits and then have them playing in my house. And please don't suggest I listen to Kids Pop stations because my kids like music and I will not belittle like that.

I think this is an excellent idea we have had this problem when playing disney soundtracks for our children

Please offer explicit filter. Very bad for young teens that are using Spotify!

I don't understand why you have not put a control on Explicit lyrics yet? This is ridiculous that you have been going on for years like this letting anyone of any age hear songs that are so inappropriate for young teen girls and she thinks she is so cool and we fight not stop when she plugs in her phone while I drive her. I simply can't wait any longer and want to cancel her subsription. This should of been done years ago, you just choose to ignore it and let these kids learn through music which is WRONG! You should be ashamed that you can't put 1 simple control on your music. Why??? I need to know.

Just walk away. I did. Just yesterday I voted with my wallet and canceled.

Apple Music allows you to control whether kids can access explicit songs.
Or whether you can too, for that matter.

It's a pain to switch, but - News Flash - Spotify isn't listening.

I find it ironic that the community forum (this very page) has a "Report Inappropriate Content" option up at the top to prevent inappropriate content from showing up here. And yet I don't have that option within the app. This feature would not censoring any artist, I don't want to listen to them in the first place.

I would like to point out that I don't want an option to play non-explicit "versions" of songs. I simply want to skip explicit songs. I don't like censored versions of songs, but sometimes it's not appropriate to hear swearing at all.

krisroberson-us

Well, this initial idea was posted in 2012.

Staff messages keep sending people here and there seems to be no movement on this idea that Spotify claims to like.

Any chance that we can get an, "Eplicit" filter sometime before another 5 years goes by?

Vote with your wallet. Cancel today.  It's not as hard to walk away as it would seem.  3 years of Spotify was all I could stand their lack of concern.  It seems they are purposefully corrupting our children's ears and ours for that matter.  They really don't care and are not going to change this. CANCEL TODAY like I did. Amazon music has clean versions of albums that are easy to find.  Apple music has the best filter but it's not great with Android yet.  Whatever you do, don't keep supporting this company with your money.
