[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Completely agree with all of you above - why has nothing been done to bring this feature desired by many users for many years?

It can be done because Pandora has it. You can also save music offline on Pandora now.

I prefer the Spotify interface, but if the filter option doesn’t come soon, I’m switching to Pandora.

@vgullotta,

You mention American companies. Throw in Pandora and Groove and nothing changes. This is all about our expectations. Why enforce our standard on the world when we only need to bug ourselves?

vgullotta

@CuboidPilot The point I was making was that the American companies have this feature, the Swedish one is the one without the feature. What the **bleep** are you talking about? America and the FCC are not forcing anything on you, the issue is that Swedish company Spotify has chosen to ignore its customers. Take your racism elsewhere.

@CuboidPilot I’m not sure they would enjoy their own children hearing rappers discuss their **bleep** lives, and not healthy ones at that. It’s not just about swear words, which may lose some of their meaning in other cultures. It’s not a big deal to add the stupid button to the interface. Quite a bit of the music is already tagged explicit.

I see this was posted 5 years ago, but please don’t let this idea continue to go ignored! It would be an extremely helpful feature to have, and it would prevent me from having to create two separate playlists, one with explicit songs and one clean! Sometimes I don’t want others to hear explicit music, sometimes I don’t want to hear it myself, and it’s irritating having to go through the play queue and delete every upcoming explicit song (especially as there seem to be so many of them in the Spotify pre-made playlists)

It has been year since this issue was brought to the forefront. I would be most grateful for an update on progress. chez@mozambezi.com

Hey all....I - along with MANY PEOPLE share your frustrations.

I have been watching this thread for a bit.  It is pretty obvious that Spotify is NOT listening to this forum.  So several of us have decided to try to take some proactive steps to help "motivate" these idealoges from Spotify that we DON'T WANT TO LISTEN TO CRxP!  So please join us in following the steps below:

Let's keep the momentum going:

1. Go to the App store for your particular device and give the a 1 star rating stating that lack of "explicit" filter is the reason

2. Email support@spotify.com and indicate to them your intentions

3. Tweet @SpotifyCares @spotify  and demand they put an Explicit filter

4. If you feel comfortable, visit a website we put together to try and focus efforts;   http://spotifyexplicitbutton.com

@vgullotta Can you elaborate on what you know about this filter being in development currently?  How do you have this information when the rest of the community is in the dark here?

Great ideas, @paul_mccrorey!!! Did several of them just now!

Once you put the explicit filtering in I will subscribe
