[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Yes, I want the explicit on/off button too! Just had the nasty surprise of my daughter loving Tiffany Think We're Alone Now autofollowed by a song called Tiffany that almost started out with "You F*&^& B*^&(&". No thanks!

I think 365 pages of comments was the limit, and then it started back at
the beginning, sorta overwriting old comments. So I wonder how many times
has this rolled over now?

I have also noticed that the "votemeter"  status has broken. !0,000 votes seems to be the limit there too - hope that doesn't reset itself to zero

Hi. I'd really like to turn off explicit content. I'm a subscriber and a teacher. I need playlists that aren't going to drop the f-bomb without me knowing it's coming. Pandora has this option...so I might need to make the switch soon as I'm tired of being surprised.

After reviewing comments, I have to ask...How many pages of comments does it take for you to update with a button??? If you were serious about this, you would have done something by now. For real, this type of coding is just not that difficult. Are you getting paid by these producers or something? It's crazy to not have an option to keep things kid-friendly. You are really limiting your audience...or subjecting them to trashy language. Not cool.

I absolutely think this is necessary, only because I am sick and tired of having my music switch to censored versions. I don't just want to be able to turn off "edited only," I want to have to turn on "allow edited," if I'm logged in as a member over the age of 18. Music should be uncensored by default, if you actually care about music. By all means, have the ability to make your own choice. But by no means should the default be to allow "edited" (censored) versions. I don't even want to casually come across "edited" (censored) versions unless I've specifically chosen to allow them at all. I would rather not hear the music at all if the only version you have is an "edited" (censored) version. And I absolutely think people should have the same option (that they can choose to set) to only hear "edited"  (censored) versions of content that otherwise would be "explicit" (original) versions.

great idea

This is ridiculous! It's a button that shows preference! I don't understand how it's so hard to make it! If some people don't want it then all they have to do is not turn it on! Duh! Use some common sense, it doesn't hurt you in any way if you'd prefer to listen to explicit songs, however some people would prefer not to and they should be able to have that choice. This whole asking Spotify for it and not getting it has gone on long enough. Some of these posts are from like 2013 and it's 2017, almost 2018....sooo if you could make the button already that'd be nice!!!

Really!? I can't believe this is still unsolved.  You have infinity votes (according to your community board), you have good tech people, you have songs already categorized as Explicit; yet you haven't fixed it?!  This tells me that you have no desire to fix it.  From reading threads on the internet today, im guessing that I'm not the only one who is choosing not to buy the family plan due to your commitment to streaming explicit content into the lives and minds of those who are asking that you not.  I get that i may have a totally different, and quite possibly bizarre, stance than you. However, this fix has no down side.  It can increase your revenues by offering something that we'd be willing to get behind. So while you obviously don't understand our vantage point, I'd ask that you seek to understand our view, then make the fix, then pick up all the money that you are walking away from... out of principle?
