[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

It appears to me and should be obvious to all that Spotify has NO intention of ever adding a way to filter and or block explicit music which especially for a family plan should be a given.

Yonka

This should be a very easy feature to implement. Why have you still not implemented it????????

charitywood

Why is this still not an option????? I'm currently using Spotify in my spa and randomly get songs dropping F bombs etc... unacceptable...

If this isn't fixed soon, I will have to go back to Pandora....

Hi all, FYI I've set up a twitter bot that reposts all the comments from this page on to twitter. You can find it at:

https://twitter.com/shameonspotify

This was partially inspired by @paul_mccrorey 's idea to forward emails from this thread to spotify support. There's a couple of reasons why I wanted to do this over email forwarding,

  1. email has no public visibility, and

  2. (I hope) Spotify is more likely to respond to us on twitter.

Additionally, if like me you use gmail then it's not actually possibly to automatically forward emails to another email address without that address giving gmail permission to do so.

I'm still tweaking around with the bot - it won't re-post immediately yet, but you get the idea.

If you tag me on twitter with some good content, such as @JustAnotherJay 's article or a meme you made (such as my Dear: Spotify playlist) then I'll manually re-post it (eventually).

Wondering if this is even in the works? Need to change music services if not.  Please respond asap

This is very much needed. I would also like to be able to filter by genre. I don't let my young children watch TV programmes that might disturb  them. Music and the lyrical themes within is no different.

Please sort it out.

"Ayy, I've been **bleep**in' hoes and poppin' pillies
Man, I feel just like a rockstar (star)
Ayy, ayy, all my brothers got that gas
And they always be smokin' like a Rasta
**bleep**in' with me, call up on a Uzi
And show up, name them the shottas
When my homies pull up on your block
They make that thing go grrrata-ta-ta (pow, pow, pow)"

First verse of the current global number 1 although there are many, many better examples . I am no liberal snowflake but I hope my young son grows up with a better attitude towards women than that.

Totally agree. If this feature is added, we will upgrade to the family account.

@shameonspotify  That is awesome!  Thx for your work.

I am glad to see us getting more organized.  I finally go around to doing just a little more on the website I built.  I am totally open to anyone who had ideas on how to make it better.  I don't have ton's of time to work on it so I am open to help.  Please look at it and ping me if you are willing to help.  Otherwise I think @shameonspotify and @JustAnotherJay have moved the ball down the field nicely.

Let's keep building and organizing.

I do like the outward approach.  I wish we could get a news outlet to pick this up.

Onward!

In addition to @shameonspotify, here is repost of potential news outlets.  I will be posting the twitter handles for Spotify investors shortly.

I sent the below message to the links from rbaumert's post that would accept my message.

Shame on Spotify

Imagine yourself with 40 friends over for the holidays and listening to Spotify in the background when all of a sudden a string an "F" words come through on some newly released Rap song. Yes, this happened to me. After research, it appears that Spotify has a thread on their community page that is 5 years old and has over 10,000 votes and 380+ pages of comments requesting an Explicit Filter Button. There is a big void in the marketplace for a Clean Language music. I am not talking about music only for the Amish or the Mormons but basic Public Radio Version music that is the norm for Red White and Blue Americans! 99% of Americans do NOT want to turn on their radio and be subjected to Explicit language! Shame on Spotify, Google, Amazon, Deezer and iTunes.
