[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I would love this for myself and my girlfriend's kids. Also, a way to flag a song as explicit would be good as well, as I've come across a couple of unlabeled tracks that definitely are explicit.

I subscribed to Spotify specifically for use in my elementary classroom.  The lack of a feature to exclude explicit songs limits my options. I can only use self-created playlists because I can't trust other lists to be clean. Since songs are already marked as explicit, it seems like it should be an easy fix. Being in the trial period of my subscription, I'm thinking I'll discontinue and move to another option that contains this feature. Spotify's 3.5 year delay in implementing this feature is not very promising.

This is so discouraging. I love Spotify...and I pay a basic subscription fee monthly... but the lack of the ability to filter out Explicit Lyrics (which are growing by leaps and bounds) is very frustrating.  I don't understand what the delay is...what is the resistence??? If music makers are concerned, then let them clean up their language a bit!

I would still like to be able to listen to hip hop playlists and that type of stuff, but have clean versions, so it would be cool to also have an option to have it replace explicit versions with clean versions instead of just skipping so that 90% of the playlist doesn't just get skipped.

I don't understand why is this so hard to implement expecially songs are already labeled "explicit"???  I use spotify at work and don't want people to be hearing offending stuff.....

I'm surprised this is still an issue. I'm subscribed and have no problem paying the monthly fee - but I'd thought filtering was a thing for premium users. Oddly, it's not, so not sure how long I will be a premium member.

I'll continue wondering why filtering of songs (or even substitution with the radio safe version) that are clearly marked as explicit is not an option.

Yes, I know you can play "clean" versions of albums, but this does nothing for playlists and radio rotations..

I cannot believe this isn't an automatic setting straight from the start! Are we really living in a world were it's accepted that EVERYONE uses and accepts profanity? Maybe big business wants us all ( including children) to simply roll over so they can make the most money for their shareholders? I've been a musician all my life and have never sworn or played songs with swearing on stage.... why do modern acts feel the need to? Haven't they got the talent to right a great song wothout the F wqord or describing sexual acts.... good greif! Spotify.... sort it or lose another tenner a month!

Since this is still under consideration and notes are still taken-- Is it possible to not skip the Explicit song entirely if there is a Clean version on Spotify?

Perfect example, "Scream and Shout" Britney and Will.I.Am.  Love that song, but would love to have that explicit filter that would get me the clean version (mainly for when my kid is in the car with me).  If the clean version is not in Spotify, it would skip to the next! 🙂

Finding there are no parental control settings was surprising. Realizing explicit content cannot be be flitered at all is simply embarrassing. My service is now cancelled. Let me end with recommended lyrics including the chorus below: When I'm **bleep**ed up, that's the real me When I'm **bleep**ed up, that's the real me, yeah I only **bleep** you when it's half past five The only time I'd ever call you mine I only love it when you touch me, not feel me When I'm **bleep**ed up, that's the real me When I'm **bleep**ed up, that's the real me, babe I'ma let you know and keep it simple Tryna keep it up, don't seem so simple I just **bleep**ed two bitches 'fore I saw you You gon' have to do it at my tempo Always tryna send me off to rehab Drugs start to feeling like it's decaf I'm just tryna live life for the moment And all these mother**bleep**ers want a real love

It's even more surprising that your blog fliters **bleep**, but your service does not. Why is that?
