[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

No. I think they outsourced or purchased their forum. I guess it could be a technology issue with engineering. Do you think product management does not ask for this????

I posted a link to a guy who wrote a spotify app that did exactly that (its not appeared here so must have got deleted?) - you could filter explicit tracks.

Spotify disapproved it and wouldnt add it to the apps page - despite allowing other rubbish, obscure apps... just google spotify explicit app ..

It could be a Preference setting where songs with "Explicit" tags are disabled for playing.

I highly support this idea as I, personally am not a fan of songs with Explicit lyrics.

Yes please - really need to have an option of disabling explicit content./  I've just signed up with Spotify Premium, but will be cancelling my subscription if it's not something that you plan on offering soon.

I just signed up with Spotify premium , I couldn't find the block explicit content button in the app settings so i used Google thinking this idiot must have overlooked the buttons placement somehow. I found this thread thread instead and I'm shocked that don't have this extremely standard feature. Part of the reason i got Spotify was to play music for the kids, turns out i can't do that. I switched to Spotify because they had a higher bitrate than Pandora, looks like I'm heading to Google music... Also, I fail to see how allowing subscribers to easily and intelligently filter explicit music takes away from the music. It's merely putting a rating on the music and making it easy to filter. Does Hollywood having to put an R rating on a movie inhibit creative license? Or course not. It allows viewers to have an idea of what the content contains, that's it. I'm not playing a radio station for my kids when it can randomly drop f bombs.

Please add this feature and I will buy a family subscription.

This was first suggested three years ago, is clearly quite simple to implement, and would make a massive difference to so many people. Come on Spotify, sort it out!

+1 from me. At least this forum has highlighted that Pandora does have this feature.

I personally have no problem with expicit songs, and it does say "explicit " next to the song title. I guess they could make the "explicit" box bigger, and maybe put a parental warning before the song starts. After all, nobody wants their 7 year old son learing words like "b*tch", do they?
