[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

It appears that you cant contact them directly. I wish they would listen and make this change.

" Make a playlist with the songs YOU want. All explicit songs are labeled on the picture as explicit. "

Hey @PixelPacker - how about they flip that around and filter everything then force you to go and make playlists of the songs YOU want?

Don't be a moron.

And why do you trolls keep coming by here and getting all butt hurt as though someone is asking Spotify to filter out all explicit songs? The only thing anyone is asking for is the ability to have a choice. Go away.

You have nothing to worry about anyway cause Spotify has ignored this for years and will continue to ignore it. They suck like that. If anyone out there is looking for options I can tell you, and I've literally tried ALL of them (4 kids under 16), Apple Music is the only service that gives you 100% control over filtering as well as a family plan. The rest all have some features but not all. Don't be fooled by Google Play either. Their filtering is in radio mode only so if you hand over a family plan account to your kid they will have free reign of all content.

You can contact them, for example on twitter using @SpotifyCares - they do reply to this.

If everyone who gave this idea some Kudos also tweeted them, maybe with a common hashtag like SpotifyExplicit, they might be more inclined to listen.

Great idea but i dont use twitter. Spotify set up this community forum site for feedback. They have already got thousands of responses here. That should be enough to make them listen. Perhaps if we started using explicit lsnguage they might understand? 😉

Yes, this would be useful for family gatherings!

Ditto. I was considering getting a family account but holding off until something is in place

I have been using one of the other streaming sites that have content filter. The issue was the lack of flexability V's Spotify.

Much prefer Sporify and happy to pay the extra BUT, Content filter is a big thing!!!!! Especially with kids.

If the feature comes, Spotify will get back no less than 4 subscriptions from us which have gone to Apple Music and Google Music.

this feature would be greatly appreciated.  Please implement it.  I spent hour culling my playlists to remove unwanted lyrics.  Unfortunately, as much as I would like to peruse the selection of new artists, stations, and top hits playlists I will not.  I would need to research each song by looking the lyrics up online to make sure that what I play will be appropriate for all audiences.  I don't have the time for that.  So I rarely listen to newer songs and artists.  It is unfortunate that there is so much great music out there that I won't experience.  As a suggestion I would like to see a filter for not just vulgarity but also adult and violent themes.

Thank you
