[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Very true. On the paid version of Spotify there is no ads but still lots of bad content in the playlists. You cant use spotify at work unless you are playing classical or jazz. I cant believe they are ignoring these posts.

I can believe it. They think they have the moral high ground by protecting free speech. They see themselves as protecting the freedom of artists. A noble cause I must say. They have yet to grasp that it's my body, it's my right. Or should I say my hearing, my right. The censorship that we should abolish, is total censorship of ideas or expressions. We are not asking for total censorship. We are asking for optional censorship, where are the material would still be available to anyone who doesn't opt out. The censorship that they should be fighting against is blanket censorship by dictators in which the material is completely removed for everyone. They should not be fighting against my personal liberty in choosing what I expose myself to.

Why is this not already an option? I have to watch what comes up in the play lists at work and being able to just not play the Explicit songs by a simple preference setting would be a simple, as well as great option. At home I couldn't care less but at work I have to watch what is played as my office shares a building with one of our clients and because of what might be heard over the phone.

I am not signing up my kids for spotify because of this concern.  Spotify is losing money because they refuse to innovate.  This request was made several years ago and it still remains unresolved.

Just use Google Music for now - it is free and provides a "Block explicit songs in Radio" checkbox in the Settings section.

The November 17, 2015 "update" - which contains no new information or indication of action at all - has confirmed that nothing is going to happen on this topic. I am cancelling my account today.

Spotify staff, don't be such a bunch of idiots. This is an obvious user request and super-easy to implement. Just rise above the politics and do it already.

I don't understand how a feature with so much support and a clear positive impact could be so low on your priority list for 3 years.

This is the only thing preventing me from getting a premium account.

Please please please add this feature. I have an 8 year who loves music, I would like to leave him searching for his favourite tunes and discovering new ones, without having to worry.

This needs to happen ASAP. Discover Weekly is an amazing feature, but Explicit tracks make their way onto that playlist frequently, and yesterday I had the playlist on shuffle and it dropped the biggest mother-F-bomb at the worst possible time. Would love to see Spotify implement this to broaden its appeal for all ages like iTunes.
