[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I have watched this thread for way over a year now.

I switched to Apple Music right when it started.

It would be fun to come up with a funny name for this service.

Pitify = Pitiful Customer Respect

**bleep**ify = Censored only on their Forum

**bleep**ify =  Same as Above

Appleify = Move to Apple Music

$$$ify = Cash in while you can

Now this thread is fun!

How hard can set up this feature.  For the sake of kids, please add this feature so we can enjoy trying out new playlists with our kids around!

I dont know why people are still asking spotify to show some decency and common sense. Just move to apple and come back here to take the piss for the next four years - at least spottify cant complain about that because thats what they have been doing for four years.

That comment was Funny. Thank you so much!! My favorite is the pitify.

Currently I am keeping up with the security hole with 3rd parties - Manage Third Party Access Permissions with no way to opt out, the explicit problem, and not being able to have a photo if you are not signed up through Facebook. Pitify has provided close to zero support on all 3. I have 3 years of music (18 hours and 57 min) on one of my playlists and I truly hate to give it up. And it seems that we can no longer select all and copy paste the lists to notepad for reference. Ah life - where are the magic wands when we need them?

I just noticed something.  They have it as solved when it absolutely is NOT.

We were planning to stream music in our office, but will have to go back to Pandora since Spotify cannot allow us to turn off the explicit lyrics which would not be appropriate at work.  Seems like an easy addition to Spotify that would give listeners a choice rather than force them to leave for another platform if they need this option.

Well, in the two weeks since I've posted my original comment (https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Explicit-button/idc-p/1312047#M74569). I've seen people leaving spotify in droves over this.

Ironically I was hesitant to leave because I've been able to find a lot of Christian music on spotify and I figured they were special in what they were offering.

I've finally given up and I've joined the masses and have moved to google play. I stayed up until 2am last night rebuilding my playlists and adding albums to my library. goodbye spotify, it was fun while it lasted.

The ultimate irony is than during the cancellation process, I accidentally clicked "play" on a suggested song and I was rewarded with 2 expletives in the 1 second that it took me to stop it.

Try to contact spotify (and I recommend everybody does) via the help desk and you will eventually get some reply -  a lot of cut and paste with the same pat answers but at least a signature and an acknowlegment of the problem as WE perceive it.  Spotify does not censor material (except for this post) and it is up to us to filter explicit material as best we can to keep it from our children (I'm not kidding!) How??  All we are asking for is a tool to allow us to do this, I have not seen one post asking for censorship. Spotify appears to be putting up what seems a stupid pretence to not understand what this thread has been about for four years. In view of the numbers of subscribers leaving and blistering spotify as they go  - and these are no doubt the tip of the iceberg - I am beginning to wonder if they are pretending after all
