[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Dear Spotify,

This idea has been out for a very long time and would not be hard to implement. Until This becomes a feature, I will not become a premium subscriber.

Sincerely,
A new listener

Love the service and grateful for what I can do and all of the playlists.  Yet the explicit issue makes it hard because I have to skip songs all of the time because of the explicit material.

This button would save me a mountain of earache from the wife and mean I wouldnt have to keen listening to my kid friendly playlist!

Please, please add an explicit filter!! One of the things that I absolutely love about Spotify is the mood playlists, but it kills "the mood" for me when a song comes on with curse words tucked inside almost every song....ESPECIALLY when my child is listening too!! And these are songs you hear the clean version to all the time on the radio. So it's always a shock to hear there's an explicit version, and then disturbing that Spotify chooses that one to broadcast!! So unnecessary!! It's caused me to find an alternative to Spotify for my listening enjoyment, because I just can't trust this quirk any longer.

This idea is supported by of 4,500 users and has been an open enhancement request for over 4 years.  It must be simple to do because EVERY OTHER streaming music service worth having already does this.  So, it is not a legal issue with the artists.  It is not a technical challenge.  It is just Spotify refusing to deliver something so very key for its user base.  RIDICULOUS

This is spotify challenging normal social expectations.

I was horified to find that my kids (7 & 9) were begging me to play "**bleep** Donald Trump" after they heard it a day ago - apparently when I had left Spotify on and they switched from the Canada Top 50 to the Canada Top 50 Viral songs. I guess I learned my lesson - spotify is 'adults only' and sadly requires my constant supervision (unlike the other non-kid friendly places that I can 'switch off').

Come ON SPOTIFY!

Any update on when we can expect to see a filter for explicit lyrics? This is a feature every other music service has.

Bmozisek
Never. Spotify doesn't censor it's artist. If this is a feature that your
want you have to go to a different service.
