[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Great idea. I think that would persuade us to take up a family accent if we
could filter out the explicit stuff but when we play music in the house we
also need to be able to simply switch an adult account over from explicit
to radio edits.

Spotify, PLEASE add a setting to disable explicit content. I love Spotify, but do not wish to listen to music with curse words. Not just for my kids, but for me! If this feature is not added, I will no longer subscribe. I don't know why this can't be done. I have that option with Pandora and other streaming services. Spotify should be offering this so feeds can be customized for their listeners.  Many artists nowadays have "radio edits" or clean versions of their songs available.

Please add a Block Explicit option!

It seems that the most requested changes to Spotify are the explicit filter and the ability to post a personal photo without needing or using a facebook account. This would seem to generate financial gains by bullying subscribers in the instance of the facebook fiasco - Spotify  are obviously in bed with facebook. As far as the filter goes, it would seem that  Spotify may regard their artists as their true customer base, irrespective of talent, and are prepared to jump into bed with anyone that is prepared to talk dirty to them - and to force sucker suscribers to listen

Spotify doesn't understand what it means to "censor" something.

They have a robust system that tries to analyze what type of music you like and deliver new music for you in the weekly discover playlist. Some people like rap, some people like country. Some people like faster-paced music, some people prefer slow jams. Some people don't mind/like explicit lyrics in their music, some people DO mind/DON'T like explicit lyrics.

It has NOTHING to do with censoring explicit music. Truly "censoring" explicit would mean if they went through and edited explicit lyrics out of songs for those who wanted that. But that is not what I'm asking for when I say I would like an explicit filter. I don't want to listen to ANY song PERIOD that has explicit lyrics in it. Simply because I just don't like that. That's my choice, my taste in music.

Not having that, is just making it harder to get to the music I DO like. Has NOTHING to do with censoring, because I'm not going to listen to explicit music anyways. Just makes it very difficult to discover new music and leave random playlists on. If I do hear cursing in a song, I will skip it, but by then it's too late, and if there are young ones around they've already heard it. So putting Spotify on is absolutely out of the question during any social events that I have. Of course I can make a custom playlist with every song I know that will play, and that is an option. But sometimes it's nice to have a particular song in mind that sets the desired mood, and want to play new similar music like that. That's what I'm able to do with Apple Music and not have to worry about explicit songs coming on, but can't on Spotify.

To me, it seems like Spotify at this point is not concerned at all about families or young ones who enjoy music. To me, it's like they are being run by hipsters who are all like "Can't stop the music man! We don't Censor music bro!", and really have not thought any further about this. That's not a very smart business decision in my eyes, but it is their prerogative. And as a music lover I do enjoy some of their features, but in the end not having an explicit filter is a deal breaker, and I will not return to Spotify until this feature has been added.

I recommend to those who are also wanting this feature to check out either:
Pandora
Or
Apple Music

Hi Spotify,

i was was hoping the family suscbrition had this feature so I can control the explicit music and wanted to up grade from the £10 a month to £14! I would have thought as its a family suscbrition the clue is in the title! I will upgrade to £14 a month when this feature is in place. Let me know when you have done this and the £4 extra a month is yours!

Thanks

Simon

Agreed. We have the family plan but I don't like the fact that we might hear swearing while listening to seemingly innocent stations/playlists, especially for my kids.
