[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Great Service as eveyone has mentioned but would be nice to have the option to remove all or some of the explicit content per family account.

For now, I will hold off on other family members joining the spotify bandwagon.

Thanks!

Just signed up for premium.

5000 kudos and still no filter for explicit content? Come‘on guys, Pandora has it from day one.

Its an important feature that should be relatively easy to add since you already tag songs as explicit.

Think of children.

Why did you sign up for premium? Don't you know that by doing so gives no
incentive to change? Paying for premium only supports the idea that people
will still pay and listen with no option to avoid explicit content.

I originally signed up for Spotify Premium because my older kids talked me into it.  And I've really enjoyed the service.  Now, I have a younger daughter, and I let her create her own playlist that we can listen to together in the car.

At the time, I did not realize that I could not filter out explicit songs.  I mean, it's absurd!  Who doesn't allow you to filter out explicit songs?  It's not a matter of censorship.  It's a matter of giving your customers control over what they listen to ... which I thought was the point of Spotify Premium.

At first, I didn't like Apple Music, but as I'm spending more time with it, it's beginning to know me better and give me the music I like to listen to.  We're an Apple family (iMac, multiple Macbooks, Apple TV, ipads, and iphones), so Apple Music would be "easier" for us.  But, I like the idea of getting my music from somewhere else ... IF ONLY I COULD EASILY FILTER EXPLICIT MUSIC LIKE I CAN WITH APPLE MUSIC.

i am cancelling my subscription. I am sick and tired of hearing profanity on most of the playlists that are offered. I asked as well as the community to be able to filter out the explicit songs. I can only take so much of hearing the N word, B word, etc during my daily commute, workouts, etc. At least Apple Music has the ability to filter those out. I have been a paid member for 5 years and I think it is time for me and my family to leave.

I signed up for the 3 month for $0.99 promo. If the filter is not added by the end of the term, I will cancel my subscription.

I have a 10 years old and I cannot let him use Spotify without this filter.

Honestly, I don't understand why Spotify is reluctant to implement this filter...strange

Firstly - Why is this thread marked as 'Solved'????

Secondly - After 2 years waiting for this feature, I've cancelled my subscription. For those of you interested in doing the same - here's a link that outlines which music services are best for kids with a section to show you which services allow you to filter out songs with explicit lyrics https://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/which-music-streaming-service-is-best-for-kids

+Stephenjpmurphy - great. I have already taken a family subscription with apple and now the kids can explore music with minimal supervision (I fell into the trap of assuming that spotify kids sections were suitable for pre-teens = BIG MISTAKE!! even in the special kiddies playlists!! The filter that apple provides has worked flawlessly, and even though I am not a great fan of apple in all its forms, I thank them for providing a CLEAN environment for children - something that we sorely need today . Well done Apple and others. SHAME  to SPOTIFY. Visit the comparison site suggested above, and leave comments there. Let others realize what Spotify are up to BEFORE they get caught. I FEEL GUILT AND A CERTAIN SHAME THAT I ALLOWED MY CHILDREN TO BE EXPOSED TO SPOTIFY and needless to say I am very pissed off about it

I'm in with this option!!! Come on Spotify.

nathanlagotte

THIS OPTION IS A MUST! WE NEED CONTROL OVER CENSURED SONGS FOR THE SAKE OF PRESERVING INNOCENCE IN CHILDREN AND OFFENCING CO-WORKERS, FRIENDS,FAMILY AND THE PUBLIC, SPOTIFY HAS TO DO THIS SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
