[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Why is this not a thing yet!?!

Look, I love Spotify. I've been a premium subscriber for a few years.

...BUT...

I'm setting up an outdoor speaker right now and, as you've probably guessed, I'm using Pandora (free) for this. Unless of course I plan on painstakingly creating clean lyric playlists... Come on already!

Would be helpful listening at work too.

I think we are wasting our time here... Check Spotify on Facebook.... aparently they have pretty big crowd who doesn't want this... mostly teenagers (obviously).

They published a new ad for the Family Membership... so I questioned them about offering family membership while not implementing family friendly filters...

Here is the link to the post:

I will never pay for premium until I can avoid explicit lyrics.  Seems like such a simple thing as you already tag them. Also seems like you would do it for your own benefit - you'd have many more listeners if the service could be used at work.

So you have priced your family plan accordingly and I will now signup but family means young children and we need a way to prevent explicit music. In addition to each member being able to toggle the option, there should be an option for the master account to push ths option for any of the family accounts. If the option is pushed from the master account then it should not be able to be toggled off by the family member account.

I can understand why Spotify would be reluctant to attempt a fix of this nature (just remember the farce of the new community forum layout) but come on spotify! Your forgiving and loyal followers - to - be would be very tolerant of a stuff-up or two if you even tried to implement a very necessary change of this importance. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I get the impression that Spotify will never implement this functionality.

The original request was made on 2012-02-18, which is now more than 4 and a half years ago.

How many more people will have to vote for this functionality, for you to actually do something about making it a reality?

This is something that will give you a competitive edge...

I guess our wait will be in vain...

Don't give up people, keep up the pressure - Facebook, Twitter (#SpotifyExplicitButton) etc. It will make a difference (eventually!)

I think your right, four years is a ridiculously long time.

Maybe it's time for the media to shed some light on this, Fox News, CNN... or how about an online petition? Change.org?

It would seem easy enough just to choose Apple Music but my daughter swears nothing compares to the Spotify user experince. Also, Spotify intergrates with my Bose whole house audio systems, Apple Music does not.

Offering a family plan without an explicit filter or some form of parental filtering is amazing really.  It's like a hamburger joint offering the best burgers in town but without the meat.  I think it's proof that it probably is a function of the software that we won't ever see.  Again, it's sad because Spotify is the best music streaming service but the lack of this primary function is causing it to lose customers and/or prevent it from gaining new ones.
