[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Status: implemented

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.
 
We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such. 

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

Spotify is behaving like a **bleep**. Even if you cut the smelly bits off a **bleep** it would still stink. Something fundamental is rotten in the attitude of this corporation and only time will show what it really is.

At the moment I'm considering cancelling my membership because of the lack of this basic feature and I'm definitely not about to upgrade to 'Family Membership' without it.  

This cannot be hard to solve.

Exactly, it's not a matter of "can" but rather "want". Spotify has been demonstrating completely deff ear to its community in regard to this issue.

Am looking at alternatives right now and will vote with my feet and cancel my subscription. Arrogant and dumb of them not to listen to their customers.

I'm stuck between Spotify and Google Play Music. I love a lot of features about both. But the biggest thing holding me back from switching from Google Play Music to Spotify is that Spotify refuses to add a Block Explicit Songs setting. Google already has this integrated in their app; it's built into the settings and easy to turn on or off. I get really tired of listening to new music, and suddenly being bombarded by obscenities. If Spotify would take the hint, I would climb on board pretty quickly. But for now, my money's going to Google, and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon.

Please include an option to block (including album cover images!) based on ratings such as G, Teen, Adult, Explicit...especially now that you have "family plans"! Seems to me that's kind of a given?! We left Spotify for the single reason that our young kids were exposed to stuff that was way beyond their age and there was no way to stop it. We just signed up again under the "Family Plan" thinking that Spotify got smarter but "family" fpr Spotify only means shared account not "family appropraite choices available". Hmmmm. our kids absolutly LOVE music and we would love for them to be able to listen freely without being encombered by the filth we adults have to sift through every day. Spotify, how much do YOU love kids, their innocence and freedom to be free from exposure to music beyond their age? To enjoy music that is age appropriate without risk, now that you have enabled whole families to participate? Why not become a leader in this area too? We believe in you Spotify!!
