[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

It would work both ways. Not having cuss words in a song and hearing cusswords. It goes down to a personal choice. You can't censor music. It's a right

I neither have a need or desire to censor music?? I want the ability to
choose the music I want using the appropriate filters. Does giving the
ability to select only metal tunes mean they are censoring pop or rap??? or
allowing me only listen to 90's mean I' censoring the 60's?? ridiculous . I
am however censoring my children's access to inappropriate content, that's
kinda the gig as a parent... there are plenty of music services who provide
this filter and they will get my money. Just disappointed as I like the
Spotify platform

I love Spotify's catalog but this lack of control made it a no-go for me. I couldn't figure out a way to have the genre of songs I enjoy listening to without pretty awful language. I like to play it in the background when I'm working out with my kids and that won't work.

For now I'm going with a paid Pandora subscription but when this feature is added I would switch because of the wider selection.

4 years since raised, 230 pages of comments and 6500 votes for it from the community. What has to happen before Spotify address this?

Subscription cancellation upcoming...

They now offer "Family Plan ", but are not family friendly. Get some
common sense. About 2 weeks until I cancel

This is a must do feature! I appreciate and would never discourage the artists' privilege to create their music and lyrics. However, It should be my prerogative as a consumer to purchase and listen to their music. I have purchased a service that allows me a variety of music and I would like that service to allow me to tailor my music preferences. Sure I can simply skip a song but if I’m listening to Spotify radio while driving, for instance, I don’t even know the song is explicit until I hear it and then I have to fumble around to try to skip the song all the while my kids are hearing it and I’m putting their lives in danger as a distracted driver now. It’s somewhat ridicules to not even allow the option. All of the other streaming services allow this option…If there isn’t an option soon I’ll be doing business with Google Play. Step it up Spotify.

What's funny is that a few posts above mine I tried to cuss and it got bleeped out. Now that's hilarious. What a double standard.

The "N" word in rap belittles black people and much rap dehumanizes women. I believe this music and it's simplistic lyrics should be banned from Spotify.

These rants can encourage hate and misbehavior  🙂

Got sick of listening to the profanity and being embarrassed/uncomfortable when listening in public areas . Moved to another service until this feature is available!!!!!
