[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Yes please. Need this can't even play a Christmas No 1 playlist without potentially causing offence. Sometimes I like listening to Rage Against the Machine but not if I'm listening to a Christmas No 1 playlist at work.

Won't pay for premium without this

This is basically why I NEVER use Spotify around my kids or at work.  Seems like a huge and very simple opportunity to miss.

It's unacceptable the lyrics that pop up when I'm at work or in the car with my kid. I am leaning towards moving off Spotify. Why is this so hard to add? It's not hard, you just don't want to do it becuase of the record labels. HOW ABOUT THE LISTENERS?

Why do you offer a "family" plan if it has  the ability to allow explicit content? There is a way to block explicit material on everything I use but this. I think you would triple your business if you added that simple feature. Especially since you have the '"private session" feature. It's almost like you're encouraging  people /children to listen to inappropriate music. Don't we have enough problems already? Ready to cancel...

Parental Controls would be a great idea!!!

I was searching for a new option for music for my dental office and Spotify was recommended. As soon as I realized that there is no way to filter explicit content, I was shocked.  I will say that I will never use this app unless a filter is installed. I could not risk inappropriate content or language being used in front of my patients. This is not remotely professional. I honestly cannot believe this app was recommended to me or would be used in any professional setting. I also cannot believe this is not integral to any and all music apps. Something is seriously wrong that this has not been corrected with so many comments both here and the general online community requesting it. I hope it is corrected soon for the long term viability of your business.

I think this issue is more complex than a simple button. Let's get that button, but let's also allow the community to flag a song as explicit. I just skipped over a song with multiple instances of Sh** and F*** in it that was not marked explicit.

Additionally, finer controls should be available to fine tune what kinds of songs are acceptable. Different families have different tolerances towards different words and themes. For example, even if a song has zero swear words in it and it has theme that contradicts my values (example themes include glorifying illegal drug use, etc...), I would like to "ban" it from playing on my instance of Spotify.

SPOTIFY,

You and I both know this is the easiest feature in the world to implement. You simply won't. Why not be honest about why you won't do this so everyone stops bugging you about it?

It is more complex but they've been five years so maybe we get the basic explicit filter in first and then build on that?

Your idea to also have a report "this should be explicit" as well is great and should be easy

Come on Spotify, what is taking you so long?
