[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Essential feature!!

BifDog

I was shocked to find that i'm not just missing this.  Please add.

Come on Spotify, this has been on your radar for 4 years (https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Linux-Windows-Web-Player/Disable-Explicit-Songs/td-p/6103) now at least. Get it together or people are going to go to Google Play Music: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/block-explicit-lyrics-in-music-subscription-services/

I'm sick and tired of walking into the kitchen to find my 3 year old daughter sitting in there listening to the Alexa dropping F bombs and all kinds of other explicit lyrics. I have a family plan and would like to set it so specific family accounts cannot play explicit lyrics. Make this happen soon or my business is going elsewhere.

Please please please prioritize this.  We like to have spotify playing in the house, but with 3 young kids we're often scrambling to skip to next song if there's explicity lyric (which seems to be more and more frequent).  We're having to curate playlists which are kid-friendly listening (but still something the adults enjoy) and that's a real pain.

C'mon guys.... this shouldn't be that hard... the tag is already on the song.  Include a toggle yes/no setting which says, "Exclude explicit-lyric songs from Playlist".

Please please please please.

Can't vote for this feature for some reason, but I support it 100%. This is a critical feature for families with kids or sensitive listeners.

Dear Spotify Staff,

Since you are having trouble getting this feature implemented, I'll do it for you.

if (account.IsChildUnder10)

  searchResults.RemoveAll(TAGGED_EXPLICIT)

Thre you go. Two lines of code and this feature that a lot of parents want can be implemented.

Thanks,

Scapp70

I think they're couting on this petition to die down

How many votes would it take to get this off the backlog and into development?

You'd be welcome into the family room once this feature is delivered.

Makes sense?

Please add this soon - important for all of your users with kids. You have a moral responsibility for this and this alone should make it a high priority. it's been 5 years since the original post... Not great guys.

What person is deciding that Spotify  should not have this feature to turn off explicit music, clearly it's not a programming or economic problem. I understand you don't want to censor content, your not, but I want to have the choice as I have young children. I subscribed to the 'family' plan but I 'm going to have to part ways with Spotify and go to a more family friendly provider. Poor show Spotify, poor show.
