[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Negative reviews in Google's Play Store and Apple's App store would probably start getting some attention. Let's all go in to our stores and give them 1 star and state this is the reason they get the 1 star.

This is my now current review of the Spotify App. Please feel free to copy and paste if you want:

THIS IS NOT A CHILD SAFE APP. Spotify gets 1 star. We have been asking for an explicit filter for HALF A DECADE! Nothing comes from it. There is a 5 year old post on Spotify's community that gets new updates from paying customers EVERY SINGLE DAY asking for this, yet gets no updates from Spotify. We have attempted tweeting @SpotifyCares, but @SpotifyCares absolutely does NOT care, about you, about your kids or about anything other than money in their pockets. So disappointed in Spotify. It was good for so many years.

Would like my kids to be able to listen to spotify on the family account I just purchased - why is there no option to block explicit content?!

Let’s get this moving, Spotify you had enough time to sort this out. Let’s all leave the honest reviews, Please be honest we all love the service, we just want you to do something about this.

Great ideas to tweet and post on the App stores.  I just added my 1 star review... I'll tweet as well...maybe a hashtag #SpotifyDontCare or something?  I am open to ideas that can help us band together and make one voice.  Maybe we can direct all of the other threads like this to this one?  Keep thinking and let's come up with a plan.  TIME TO ACT.

That is TERRIBLE for those above who's young kids were taught curse words by this app. I understand that totally - you work hard to raise your kids right and not subject them to the **bleep** of this world until they are older...and all of the sudden it sneaks in THRU A MUSIC APP?!?!?! of all places.    Enough is Enough

#Spotifydoesntcare already exists.

I’ve also given my 1 star review in the Apple Store.

I work with kids and subscribed to Spotify specifically for this use, but it’s usless to me as almost every playlist has swear words-even “hits for kids” and the like. I’m thinking I’ll most likely cancel my subscription and use Apple Music instead if you can’t put this basic feauture in soon. It’s crazy that so many people want this n Spoitify won’t compete.

Apple's iMusic has this feature. Just saying. 😜

Why haven’t Spotify introduced parental control yet? Unless it happens I will have no choice but to cancel my premium account and go to a revival provider. I have a 7 year old that loves music and 6 year old that is just switching on to music so having this option is pivotal to me continuing with you. This has been aired on numerous forums with Spotify committing not direct action to the problem. The click is ticking........

Spotify, I have discontinued your service. I had a personal plan, then
family plan for the past 18 months or so but I'm done. Amazon music is a
better option for me and my days of spotify are over. Thank goodness.

Lack of an explicit filter is the only thing stopping me from going premium... get your act together Spotify... no filter severely limits the number of times I can let Spotify play some tunes for me... sooner you get this filter going the sooner you will get my premium membership. Then again, because you don’t seem to fulfill the requests of your loyal paying subscribers I’m going to start shopping around.. this filter thing was the reason I supported Pandora for so long!! Since Pandora forced my hand by shutting down in Australia recently I’m am inclined to jump on the Spotify bandwagon, but lack of filter is holding me back and making me look/shop around... I imagine I am not the only one, so you are probably losing customers on the daily, and may lose myself if you don’t get your act together.. I suggest all those that want the filter option to boycott premium until Spotify listen to the people who are essentially keeping them going. 9000+ votes on a small forum page probably shows a minor % or actual customers who would appreciate this feature and the best Spotify gives is “we think it’s a good idea” I’ll say it one more time, get your act together or you pay the price of limiting you audienceand prospective subscribers, I’m sure there are other music subscription options out there that will provide the needs of it listeners.. rant over..
