[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I also think that adding a way to filter explicit songs (maybe on a per account basis and on demand via a button) is crucial.

Because of this we (as a family) have to keep Apple Music around as it supports blocking explicit songs for the kid's devices.

I think Spotify is far more advanced regarding all the features around music exploration (weekly playlist, continuing after playlist ends, ...) and therefore I want to keep it.
Such a feature would be the missing argument for me to convince my wife to completely switch over to Spotify.

Our daughter always asks me if she can have Spotify on her phone but I have to refuse. This way our children grow up getting used to Apples music service and are more likely to stay there when they get old enough to choose for themselves.

I think that we are not the only family having to do that and I think that a big part of the next generation will be lost that way.

Spotify finds that the freedom of expression of the artists to speak with vulgarity & filth is more important that protecting our children from such, so I made the ultimate decision and canceled Spotify. No one in my family will be subjected to this again. Thanks Spotify!!

How is this not a feature already? Come on.

Brett-69,
Google Play Music only has a filter for the Radio portion and not the songs. I am not an Apple person and outside of iTunes, there is NO option....It is a serious VOID in this market.

Too bad more customers don't do the same as you and I. If these 10k
customers that are upset would cancel their premium membership I'm sure
they would give it serious consideration.

If Deezer is available in your country try that. It allows parental controls in its family plan. That's where I'm moving to - just enjoying their trial offer at the moment. Nice interface, seems every bit as good as Spotify.

It's been years since the first post on this. Adding additional comments to that is obviously not working. Please let the community know if this will ever happen. If not, that's fine just say so and I'll just stick with other services.

Thanks,

George

Just cancelled my premium subscription, cannot wait for this feature any longer. Will consider a return to Spotify when they add this feature. Until then I am an Apple Music family plan subscriber.

In the cancellation questionnaire I made it clear that the lack of this function is the only reason for my cancellation.

This seems pretty basic. Now with Google home, we have invested in spotify as a family. And yet it spits out shocking swears while our kids are in the room. Is there really a product development team working on improvements? This one seems basic. Get on it already please.

Can Spotify please give a definitive answer regarding whether they will or will not be adding an explicit button to turn off/on explicit content? I've just done a search and it looks like the eariest request for this was in 2012 and here we are in 2017 still requesting the feature. Surely it doesn't take 5 years to develop such a feature if most your competitiors already have it.
The need for such a feature is not only for parents wanting to censor content for their children, there are a lot of people who would like to use Spotify at work or other places where it is not appropriate to have explicit lyrics playing. Rather than making thousands of people waste time making duplicate playlists of their NSFW ones without explict songs, how about Spotify follow through and just add the feature so people can have the choice to use it or not. Surely that's a better option than forcing them to decide if they'll use Spotify at all or not.
