[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Agreed, and I am not going to contribute to it by supporting a business who
is morally bankrupt.

The lack of an explicit filter is literally the only thing that is holding me back from starting a family subscription.  Would love to be able to play Spotify radio in the car or the home stereo system, but having to dive for the skip button when some offensive language starts spewing is NOT something I am going to pay for.

6 years now. Clearly a company without morals. More interested in making sure they keep artists on their platform by not restricting what music listeners can listen to.

To sell a 'Family' subscription and think that 'Family' should consist of adults only is extremely naive. I have 2 children of 10 and 8 who like listening to songs on my spotify, but I have to set them up specific playlists. I want them to have their own and be happy that they won't hear words I don't want them to.  But that seems wayyyyy too hard for spotify to do, even after over 10,000 votes and it sat here for 6 years.  They clearly don't care. At all.

Come on spotify, pull your finger out of your backside and deliver something that people clearly are desperate for.  Else the dollar you crave may disappear as people go to platforms that do offer it.

Thomaticus

I ended my subscription.    Spotify is a take it or leave it company.

can't believe this is taking so long to figure out.  Something tells me the music companies won't let you do it so you are just stalling.  This seems like a "duh" feature to have right from the beginning.

They don't intend to change- simply stringing you folks along to collect
another month's fee. Wise up, the only way to make them consider what will
happen is for everyone who is being "strung along" to cancel immediately.

Hey all - Had another thought...

Since all of these other business are competitors to Slutify I wonder if we started contacting their marketing departments and let them know that Spotify has turned their back on a huge segment of their customer base and that they could advertise directly at existing Spotify users who want the explicit button...we could show them this thread and it would demonstrate the idiotic and idealolgical "come heck or high water - shove it down our customers throats" mentality.

Thoughts?

Oh - here are the accumulated steps....we should add - Cancel this service to it perhaps.

This list is gathered from a few different sources.  The "Explicit Button" feature request on Spotify's Ignored forum.  I will continually add to it as the ideas are generated.

1.  A MUST IMHO:  Either manually or automatically Forward ALL status emails from this thread to Support@spotify.com

2. Go to the App store for your particular device and give the a 1 star rating stating that lack of "explicit" filter is the reason

3. Email support@spotify.com and indicate to them your intentions

4. Tweet @SpotifyCares @spotify  and demand they put an Explicit filter

5. If you feel comfortable, visit a website we put together to try and focus efforts;   http://spotifyexplicitbutton.com

6. Contact some sort of media outlet to possibly shame them into doing something!

7. Turn this thread in to a review of other services and how to change to that service.  Apple music using “SongShift” app to transfer playlists

8.  Link to an excellent article by Jason Bouwmeester   This article does an wonderful job summarizing the issue!

9.  Follow this twitter account - https://twitter.com/shameonspotify  and retweet as much as possible.  The effort to get this campaign an outward focus.

It appears Spotify has filed to go public... https://www.axios.com/exclusive-spotify-files-for-its-ipo-2522109160.html - wonder if there's anything that can be leveraged there.

The lack of this feature is really dumb. Get on with it
