[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Apple has a robust and universal explicit filter [even across videos} so I am going back there. I gave Deezer a try but in spite of the family friendly rhetoric they do NOT have an explicit filter even on the family plan

True: Deezer also doesn't have explicit blocking features. I'm sticking to
Apple Music, which is slightly inferior to Spotify but does have the
explicit filter.

I was looking into getting premium. I like the yoga playlists and would love to use them for class. Weird that there are occasionally explicit songs that can’t be skipped. Not worth the money if I don’t have full control over explicit content....kind of insane this isn’t a thing.

Ah, yes, Spotify.  We dated briefly but her inability to stop cursing, even when children were present, put me off.  I couldn't make her stop.  We've parted ways.

Its been a while and no update.  We use Spotify at our office and it is incredibly inappropriate when there are customers with small children in our office and the F bomb blares out of our speakers.  We won't be able to use spotify if you dont add this feature.  We can only listen to oldies for so long in a day.

Hello? I don’t necessarily want to skip or not hear the songs with explicit terms. But I would like to have a clean version to hear. It seems a lot of the music I like has explicit words and I’m a little uncomfortable with playing them with my kids in the car.

I think Spotify add explicit songs to discourage people to play it in
public places because you have to have a broadcasting licence to play music
in a public place, work or office. (I think playing music to more than 5
people is actually classed as broadcasting)
Playing music in any public place either has to be royalty free music of
you have to have a licence, this is why must super markets have naff music
or they play the same songs over and over.

It's up to the establishment to pay for the ASCAP or BMI license. It's not up to Spotify to police this.

Anyone that wants to broadcast can move to Spotify business which has an explicit filter but costs more. In this case spotify recoginises that children need to be protected if there is money to be made out of it.

How much is Spotify Business? I didn't even know that existed.
