[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

How has this been talked about for so long and is still not done? I want to create a family account but want this option first. I can’t believe it’s that hard to do given most songs are labelled as explicit and have a radio versio.

I can’t believe this idea has been tossed around for years and not implemented yet.

2018, still waiting on this...

I placed a Support email question and they keep replying with great positive words of caring about the topic.  At one point I included the link to this conversation and they replied:

Hi again Rich,

Thanks for your feedback.

It looks like other Spotify customers also share your idea regarding Explicit content. You can add your voice to it by giving it a like. Those who also support this idea can then vote on it or add to the conversation.

Be sure to keep an eye on the status of this feature, ideas that reach 100 votes are reviewed by the Community team on a monthly basis, and are then passed onto the right folks here at Spotify.

Previous examples of implemented ideas include Chromecast support, the Xbox app, and the return of the Wrapped campaign.

We appreciate you getting in touch to show your interest and we'll let the developers know it's something you'd like to see available in the future.

If you have further questions, please let us know.

All the best,

Jenna

Hello Rich,

Thanks for writing back and for this feedback. We know it's not okay not having that Explicit button and that you worry about your kids hearing songs they shouldn't. We're totally with you in this.

To start with, we truly understand where you're coming from and we'd really love to have this feature soon. Since this has been an ongoing topic in the Community, please know that this will be passed on to the right folks here at Spotify.

We strive to ensure our service is accessible to everyone. Further, any news regarding this request will be announced in the original idea topic here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Explicit-button/idi-p/3869.

We really think that this is a good idea so we’ll keep everyone updated on the status of your idea within the thread.

Thanks again for getting in touch with your feedback, we really appreciate it. Don’t hesitate to contact us if there’s anything else. We're always here for you.

Take care,

Merylle

Well again, great words, but I keep feeling like I'm an infant and they keep offering a new pacifier to try and keep me from crying...

Even after multiple emails back and forth and their even acknowledging this tread and that they are aware of it and no updates from them here since 2016... Its a good thing I'm not holding my breath...

I signed up for a trial of Pandora's service and I hear and read that Apple Music does a pertty good job with this assuming you are using an apple device and activate restrictions.  So I'll even give apple a trial...

Please add an explicit content button to filter songs. This would be great for at school or at parties.

Sekuether 21 submitted this idea 6 years ago and I am sorry I forgot to note here on the anniversary of this submission a couple of days ago.  Although only the first voice in over eleven thousand on this important issue I think this initial request should be recognised for the groundbreaker that it was/is and perhaps we should implement an international recognitation day to commemorate it. Thank you Sekuether21 and thank you the other 11000 and **bleep** you spotify

Please bring this feature.  I don't give a **bleep** about record companies/labels thinking they'll get less money for their rap albums.  It's probably a good thing.

To be honest, I think internet audio ought to be regulated just like over the air content.  No swearing unless they pay for the service.  Since I'm using your service like a radio, it shouldn't let me (or my kids) hear f-bombs.

this is very disappointing.  Will probably have to cancel

Why hasn’t this happened yet? Subscribers have been wanting this for years! It would be so lovely to have!
