[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Any updates? Years in the making to add a simple filter! Not a priority at all.

I'm ready to get rid of my family account unless this is added, can't listen when my children are around!!

News today for Amazon Echo users - they are rolling out Deezer integration in various territories including UK this month. Deezer supports child profiles on their family package. As soon as it’s available I’m switching over, unless Spotify have fixed this by then. There are various online services for copying playlists etc over so it should be straightforward.

Planning on cancelling my membership untill this feature is enabled, how much longer until it's implemented?

Any updates?  About to leave you for Apple Music.  Can't have my 8 year old listening to this filth!

Global Top 50......

My 8 year old girl is using Spotify on her Kindle.  Going to have to uninstall / cancel.  This is disgusting.

Is the reason you won't fix this due to royalties?

DEEZER does NOT have an explicit filter. Their marketing makes them appear child friendly and they do have a childrens section. Within that section your kids are limited to songs in the "little white duck" genre - hardly how you would want your pre and teens to explore the great world of post toddler infant music that is available WITHOUT filth. No refunds after you sign up either, and can't be tried out on the free version- family plan must be paid up front and then the bad news hits. Their support teams are probably more roundabout and idiotic than spotifies as far as convoluted logic can be manipulated. That is the first good thing I have said about Spotify but until they fix this issue they are still a pack of aresholes - Spotify I mean you

Thanks for the info about Deezer, I had my hopes up.

Seems like some sort of conspiracy, possibly some of the big labels that push this kind of music have threatened to pull out if a filter is offered, as it will reduce their number of track plays. Ironically Spotify’s total revenue would increase as more people will sign up to Premium, but the balance of plays would then get slightly skewed toward clean tracks, which will change revenue allocation to the labels and artists. Is this really a straight up design prioritisation question (which would mean Spotify basically don’t care despite 100000s of people needing this and it being the #1 requested idea), or is someone pulling strings? If it's the latter, then grow some f***ing cojones Spotify!

Hello everyone, Spotify Staff here again. We wanted to let you all know we still think this is a good idea. We don't have any specific updates for you on this but we hear your feedback that you are interested in filtering explicit content. If we any information to share on this feature request I will post here first. Thanks folks!"

So....

* You think it's a good idea.
* Over 11,000 - ELEVEN THOUSAND - users have supported this idea
...and still, you refuse to implement it.

Why? Every other streaming music service has this option, so clearly it's not hard to implement. What's your real problem here, Spotify? You're not telling us the whole story.

Why is this not an option yet?
