[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Pandora has this feature and actually plays the edited version of explicit songs.  Sad that spotify cannot match that.

Yes, this needs to be a feature ASAP. 1. I can't beleive after all these years it still isnt. 2. I can't beleive it's not legally required. I love the Spotify-created playlists and Top 100 lists but can't listen to them half the time because of where I am or who I am around. I'd pay to be a member if I could block the explicit lyrics when necessary. Until then I'm using Pandora at work and around family. I'm cutting Spotify some slack though. It may have to do with their agreements with the lables that they can't exclude tracks. But how does Pandora do it if Spotify can't?

Please, please, please can this feature be accelerated.  I am a new subsriber to Spotify and I have four children, 13, 11, 9 and 5.  The two older ones love experimenting with songs and playlists, but there are so many songs with unsuitable language and I really need them to have the option to pick a clean version!  In fact, I can't quite believe that this isn't an option.  Just because we all know the words, it doesn't mena they need to be exposed to them and their yonger siblings defintiely don't need to hear them.

Should be able to do this in radio as well!

+1 This is a must have feature for those with children around and those of us that do not care for cursing and profanity in otherwise good music.

I was going to subscribe to Spotify for a road trip, but cannot risk having explicit lyrics played while children are listening.

I don't understand how this feature can take 2 years to implement. Don't consider it. Just do it. It should have been in from the start. Unless the spotify app has been built in the most haphazard manner imaginable, this can't take more than an hour to code. PUT IT IN. As a more advanced feature, preferences should have an entire section dedicated to listening preferences. This would enable spotify-generated playlists like Top Tracks and New Releases to be customisable, eg dictated by genre, date, etc.

Echo the views of the above.

As BBQ season approaches the instances of music being streamed in the garden will no doubt increase and not being able to flick a switch and know that I can press play and leave the system to manage the content sems like a missed opportunity.

Sadly I feel this is driven by "no one else does it" rather than "lets be the 1st " - come on Spotify you used to be so innovative but seem to have followed Apple in the , lets just keep putting a new lick of paint to things.....harsh (as I appreciate a lot of the new recent features) but just a view 😞

I often allow my children access to the PC so being able to lock this would also be neat so a password is required to switch off.

Just been listening to Dancefloor hits (new from steve angelo) at work, only for Trumpsta - Djuro remix to come on. Thankfully through headphones!!

A great track and then all of a sudden the lyrics kick in with repeat instances of Mother **bleep**er (interested to see if your forum censors this - oh the irony -, so apologies if it doesnt and anyone is offended by this, but I think it makes the point fairly ) with no warning, and no Explicit lyrics icon on the Now Playing window.

So at least Lithium accept that some control is required...... and have censored my post 🙂

Now Spotify you need to do the same and give us the control ......

This is an absolute must have. Pandora has had this option for years. Spotify is rendered useless around my family (I have to use Pandora even though I pay $10/month for spotify).... How could this possibly still be "under consideration"???
