[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

My 9 year old daughter was listening to one of the Spotify playlists (Top 100 Tracks Currently on Spotify) and I was appalled by the swearing in one of the tracks. I appreciate the need to have songs in their original incarnation but there needs to be a way to filter the content for younger ears.

i have been a member of Spotify since the first day it was available in the UK but I am now actively looking at Google Play Music and any other service to find this facility. If I find one then I am off because the currently set up is not acceptable to me.

I wonder if you "spotify"... realize how many customers you would gain with such a simple feature? I started setting up an account thinking, wow there's a lot of tweaking you can do on spotify..... where's the explicit filter.... looked and looked since thats a no brainer...hmmm.. then came the REALLY?! Oh well.. back to being a happy Pandora listner for me! 😃

Can't use this service or subscribe for anyone in my family without an explicit filter.  Until it is added I'll not be using the service.

This would be perfect. A simple on/off button. I can't stand neutered lyrics and so would much rather just skip those tracks until such a time as the kids aren't listening.

Kind of bugs me that Spotify says that they value our opinions and comments but there are THOUSANDS of comments and votes over years for this feature and nothing from Spotify but for a few comments indicating that they are thinking about it.  Hmmm.   There seems to even be a guy who wrote an ad-on application for them to include in there store to handle this request until such a time they they get off their (Well I cannot say that here I would have to write a song for you to hear it on your music stream) and write the feature that this needed.  My family had been using another service and we are looking for something better.  Spotify really seems like it could be it but I am often not in the mood for (and especially not when I have my young kiddos in the car or house with me) explicit tracks.  I don't want to have to always create my own play list and even when I do I want to be able to create a radio station from that list.  However, I cannot have explicit tracks playing when my kids are listening.  This will be a deal breaker for the new family account if this cannot be resolved.

Sadily it also seems that this is the only way to contact Spotify.  I don't like that I cannot select specific tracks on Pandora but at least I can set this type of an option.  And, even the once I had an issue with the filter and submitted a ticket to them they had two different support persons working on the issue and actively contracting me to ensure that the was resolved quickly and that I was happy.

I understand that Spotify does not wish to censure music.  I wouldn't really call this the same thing.  I (we) are asking for an option that can be turned on and off (might be nice to have a parental password to turn it off on a kids account but I can live with spot checking).  If an adult wishes to listen to an expclicit track that is fine and they do not have to turn the filter on.

I am really liking the few weeks I have been using your service from the $0.99 / 3 months promo offer but I will not renew the two accounts into a family account at the end of the period if I cannot filter the explicit language when my kids are listening.

Agree with rokair 100%.

That's it for me with Spotify, as you don't care about your customers, Taylor Swift's not the only one leaving. Bye.

Just signed up for the free 3 month trial. I will not be paying for the service if there is no option to filter out explicit music. I think it is insane that this has been a topic/idea SINCE 2012, and is not an option.

Why is this still "under concideration" two years later??

It's a very important feature and until you get your finger out and actually do something about it I'll be shelving my Spotify account. I can't trust any Spotify play list to run un-attended when I have a child of 7 years old in the house who might be inadvertantly exposed to foul language just because you can't be bothered to listen to your users.

Get it sorted and then I'll think about switching back from Apple Radio, who do have an explicit lyrics filter.

While this is being 'considered' I have cancelled my subscription. With two young kids it is important to me no matter where it ranks in Spotify's priorities. After nearly three years since the original suggestion it is very obviously not going to change.

I just thought that I'd my two cents.  I agree with most everyone here in that I would love an Explicit Filter Button.  Pandora does it very well.  I just hate listening to a song and finding that it's unedited or otherwise and it drops something that I'm not a fan of.  I'm on the 3 months for $0.99 deal.  Paying $10/month will never happen if I can't Spotify it up with the family without worrying about what will play.... You guys are on top, stay on top.  This has been going on for 2 years.  Just get it done; it's clearly an issue.
