[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Just cancelled my premium family subscriptions. For now, I'll stick to Google Play - if Spotify introduces this feature, perhaps I'll return - unless Google Play has its rumoured desktop client by then.

I used to use spotify to listen at work but now I use pandora so I don't get into trouble if an explicit song comes on and I'm not at my desk to change it. While I can make playlists with all "clean" music, sometimes I just want to use the spotify radio and I don't want to hear explicit language regardless of whether or not I'm at work or wearing headphones. I'd start paying for a premium membership again if this feature were not merely a "consideration".

Please make this a priority feature.  Now I have to not allow Spotify for my family use.  We use Spotify to play all around the house and now I need to use iTunes instead.

I canceled my family plan. Google Play Music provides filtering of songs that have explicit lyrics. It has done this since the product's release.

Was playing Spotify during my daughter's 7th birthday party and somehow an explicit song by Nicki Minaj made its way onto the playlist with all of the kids asking what "eat my ass like a cupcake" means.  Thanks Spotify for debating this feature and not making it a priority.  Can't wait until Apple releases their new streaming service.  Just another reason to drop you guys like a cupcake.

Now, if you censor this post, i think it would be completely hilarious and ironic wouldn't it?

I wonder how many of us will leave Spotify today if we learn that Apple Music has this feature?

I switched from Google Play to Spotify recently, but am likely going to cancel and go back specfically because you have been sitting on implementing this simple feature. It's ridiculous that a company would even consider (and especially for this long) not giving the ability to filter explicit language from their playlists. Please add this very simple to implement feature immediately Spotify.

We need to hit twitter with #SpotifyNSFK - I think the impact of their service not being safe for kids resonates more than people at their jobs. I'd venture to guess that most of their customers can't stream at work anyway. Make sure you tag @Eldsjal @shivar @SpotifyCares

I got a respnse from @SpotifyCares in less than an hour after mentioning the "eat my ass like a cupcake" reference from @mistersandman  in a post mentioned to @Eldsjal - I did not mention @SpotifyCares so he either shared it with them or they are monitoring his mentions.

My message was: Bet @Eldsjal would get an #ExplicitButton if it was his daughter that heard "eat my ass like a cupcake" @ bday party bit.ly/spotifynsfw

(FYI - His Twitter page has a picture of a grinning 2/3 year old girl on a swing so I figure it's his daughter)

Their pathetic response was: we don't have any new info on this suggestion, but we'll remind our developers it's a popular request /A

To which I replied: @SpotifyCares @eldsjal if you have to remind devs that 6th most requested feature is popular you should fire 'em #SpotifyNSFK #whoisboss #BS

Feels helpless. Probably just gonna cancel and forget about it.

Apple Music for me. Spotify have let us all down. It's a shame because I love Spotify and would be loyal to them if they were to show the same level of loyalty to their paying customers.
