[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

This idea makes no sense. How much was it truly costing the company to keep the widget? Is this your idea of staying current when literally every other music player out there includes a widget? Widgets are one of the benefits of Android. If I wanted an apple product with apple functionality I would have purchased an iPhone.

Why would you get rid of the widget? Completely ridiculous! Why take something away?

I'm just curious what statistics spotify went off as a company to make a decision of whether or not its subscribers use a feature that is completely native to a platform. Please stop making uneducated guesses too what you think your customers want and bring back the widget.

I guess I'm a bit late to add my voice to those complaining but removing a widget when a big selling point of Android is the widgets sounds like the move a company makes that is not in touch with their customer base.

Notification bar controls are not reliably functional, but the widget was always reliable. Was it slowing the app down or costing Spotify somehow? If the removal is to save Spotify a buck, I'm sure we'll never see the widget again. Few changes are done for literally no good reason, so it's probably just an ugly reason like saving the company some money or labor. It's a shame that a useful function that wasn't hurting any user's experience had to get the ax to convenience the developers, administrators, etc. who see to running the app.

The widget for Spotify is/was literally my most used app, im now wondering if its worth paying £10 a month when the service I was receiving was better than the one I'm currently receiving. It doesn't make sense. If you wanna take stuff away from the app, charge people less month, it financially doesn't make sense to pay for a lesser service put it still be the same price. Basically I'm **bleep** and bring back the widget!

U are mad bring the widget back try a poll of all users, i will be leaving for another app it if its not comming back is the most used feature

Why was this removed in the first place?

And I'm setting my update status to "Not right now" until there's a new widget and keeping the one I have.

Force the update or obsolete my current version of the app and I'll drop my subscription. That how much I use the widget and how strongly I feel about keeping it / one like it.

Removing the widget was BEYOND THE STUPIDEST THING YOU'VE EVER DONE!!! It's the best thing to use while driving than to have to open the full app. You're compromising people's safety and that isn't cool.  I'll be using pandora or Amazon music now. Their widget fits right where this one used to be.
