[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

The fact they "care about community feedback" is now invalid. They obviously don't care what we say and that's sad

I'm new as in like a few days ago. I'm finding much interest in Spotifys platform and ease of music listening. I have other platforms such as SiriusXM, Pandora and Amazon. Not to mention I purchased and own a vast amount 4000 Plus digital songs. All of which have widgets that I used extensively. I literally had the widget from Spotify for 2 days and poof it was gone. Excuse me do you know how important it is to a music listener to be able to have a song listed and ready to go on your phone or device via a widget? It's a big deal to me!  When every other platform has a widget and they function without a hitch I don't know what the deal is with Spotify I think you can spend a little bit of your money and have a great widget Above the Rest. Not impressed as a new customer. Thanks for letting me give you feedback.

Dear Spotify, to quote another poster here (WidgetDude2): "Spotify? More like spotibyeeeeeee Felicia. "

Removing basic functionality that should be in EVERY music app is short-sighted and ignorant of your customers needs.

Now, if you come back and say "we removed it because we're working on X feature that should help to replace the widget", then great! I can back that. I will want to know what X feature is, but I'm ok with that!

Expose your DevOps backlog, Spotify. Let us see the work you're putting into this so we know. The more information we can see, the happier customers we are (within reason).

First Spotify refuses to increase the paltry "Liked" songs library size for years, and now this? So lame, and another point against renewing my subscription.

Thank you CannonballB. I fully agree. But so far. I doubt they are trying to replace it. From what I saw. They want us to use the notification tab in the notification bar. By first launching the app, playing music and then if we want to be outside the app it's all notification access. No plans on replacing widget or bringing it back

Having used Spotify extensively since about 2009, this is the first time I am seriously considering leaving the app behind. Tidal has a widget, I might take my business there.

Do you guys still think that it was a good idea to remove the widget? You're getting dragged in the tech press and in social media. I'm giving you until the end of the month.

Well...there you have it!  Just tried to PM Tom again.  Apparently there is a limit on that as well.  And the hits keep on  rollin'!!!

Don't remove! Use it every day.

I'm with you WidgetDude2 🙂 I honestly don't think they have a replacement in mind. My personal theory based on work I do in IT is that they had a set of features they wanted to roll out and those features aren't compatible with the widget. That is strictly based on my experience with iterative software development - I have NO inside information and could be SO terribly wrong, they'll slap me with a SLAPP lawsuit! XD

I will probably cancel. I used that widget hourly - I will find another company that has widgets and leave Spotify. It sucks because I've spent so much time building up my library and playlists.
