[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

If I start seeing/hearing ads, that's a dealbreaker for me. I pay for
premium so I don't receive ads or paid promotions.

That will be the day I cancel my family plan.

I've been a premium subscriber since March of 2014, and according to the
receipts, I've spent nearly $800 on my subscription. I've seen the price go
up 3 times in that time (one of them probably the upgrade to the family
plan, which is reasonable), and functionality has been reduced over that
time.

If I end up paying to have advertising delivered to me, I'm done. Forever.

Removing the android widget is absolutely ridiculous! Having it just disappear from my home screen was very frustrating. I am a highly unsatisfied customer at this point!

RayCornett

Not right now. I have a feeling of us will be changing our paid accounts to not right now until the widget is back. Whoever thought removing it was a good idea and whoever approved the change need to be fired.

Spotify is mishandling its mistake.

VampireNZ

Wow some companies just have the stupiest ideas. The worst thing is the idiotic exec that approved this moronic action probaly got a raise/bonus.

Here is an idea....don't want to use the widget, DONT PUT IT ON YOUR HOMESCREEN! You don't just remove the option for every user..is the average IQ of this world dropping?

Well I am now looking for a new provider of music for  my phone - I don't care who it is guys, music is music - I want easy fast access to control it on my phone every day....and Spotify now does not provide that. Cya..

Edit: Google Play Widget postioned on homescreen...plays music, sounds same. Job done lol.

klwatts

Bring it back. I will switch services, you are not the only streaming music service available.

I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU REMOVED THE WIDGET. WHY??? THIS WAS SOMETHING I USED EVERY SINGLE DAY. WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF REMOVING IT????

want to boost a thesis by Duncan Bayne on Linkedin:

basically spotify wants you to have to open the app and see their music "announcements" (aka advertisments for songs they think you like & want you to listen to for increased corporate revenue)
by just interacting with the widget, users only see ads if they are not premium users

now premium users also see advertisements in the form of "announcements"

per Bayne: "As I told the Spotify rep in my reply
"I also think you're aware of how this will be perceived, hence the "announcement" weasel-word to describe that advertising. If you weren't self-conscious about the perception of serving ads to Premium subscribers, it would never occur to you to use that terminology. I can almost imagine the brain-storming session with legal and product managers sat in front of a whiteboard, trying to come up with a 'more acceptable' term for banner ads. I have to admit that I'm embarrassed that I didn't anticipate the next step: nerfing the Spotify UX to ensure that customers are forced to view the ads, including those who are paying to, supposedly, enjoy an ad-free experience."
Chronsyn

You have just broken a core UX experience for your users. Not content with not even making the notification sticky, you have now removed the main way I control music day to day.

I am removing my subscription soon and will not be back. Over 6 years of service and I refuse to let your company have my money while making your product more frustrating to use.

Shove your platform where the sun doesn't shine.

I'm not updating the app because of the widget being removed. I don't understand why a company can seem so disconnected to their paid subscribers, and then prove it with such a shoddy response. I'll definitely reconsider my music provider when the time comes.
