[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

Be humble and recognize you shouldn't have removed the widget, then put it back. This is way more noble than being stubborn and adamant on a decision just because you made it without enough consideration. At the moment,  you have two groups of clients: those who want the widget back and those who just don't care. You are risking to loose the first and gaining nothing in return... Just think about it...

- "I never wanted a Spotify subscription, but now that they got rid of their android widget, I just can't wait to get one!" (no one ever)

Used the home screen widget everyday. Not having it makes the switch to Tidal (who has a home screen widget) even more likely and easier.

Just don't understand why this removal could be an upgrade in any ways.

The reason I have a premium subscription is because of the hassle-free widget. Cancel Spotify sign up with YouTubemusic then I guess

Can I use the phrase "arsehats" without violating the terms and conditions for posting to the community? It feels really appropriate when there is an arbitrary decision to remove a key and heavily used feature, pitch it as an improvement, then lock the discussion thread so you can't see the negative feedback from upset users and point users (customers) to the ideas exchange, where the outcome has been pre-determined by setting the status to "not right now".

I just cancelled my subscription (which was due to renew on the 15th).  The straw that really broke the camel's back for me was the way the community moderators here and the customer service rep I emailed dealt with the issue.  Here, the community moderators just outright stated that Spotify wouldn't even take user feedback regarding bringing back the widget.  That translates to "fukc you, we don't care what paying customers want."

The customer service rep I corresponded with actually asked for my SSN, banking info, etc.  I couldn't make that up if I tried...

FWIW, I switched back to Amazon Music Unlimited.  They've got 90 days free and it's cheaper than Spotify at $7.99 (for Prime members).   I'm sitting here listening to the exact same music I listened to on Spotify.

Here's a pro-tip for Spotify developers and investors--don't remove features people use in order to show more ads, don't dismiss customer feedback, and behave like you're not in a competitive market where there are a bunch of other companies offering the exact same service.

Dear Spotify,

Please spend time FIXING THE BROKEN PARTS of your app, rather than sending time removing parts that work just fine and are appreciated!!

Next time ASK your community first, then act and you might actually improve something.

I give it 2 weeks to return or I cancel my premium subscription as well. This is nuts.

Please! We need it back!

Removing the widget was one of the dumbest ideas ever. It's the best way for your paying customers to access your product. And then your follow up with complete arrogance! Just bring it back.
