[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

Spotify best watch out 5000+ votes in 24 hours, this is going to attract so much attention.

Money talks, make widget premium only I have been paying for over a year now. if this is some ploy to get me to look at advertisement count yourself out.

Removing this widget is so unnecessary. Why annoy everyone who uses it as part of their experience? Why add extra steps to navigate the app in the same way?

And then to ask for us to vote it back is a horrible community experience....

Terrible UX move to kill the Android widget. But with 5,000 angry replies in under 24 hours, you don't need me to tell you that. Your developers know that every additional click or action you put in front of a user's desired action costs you significant dropoffs in engagement. It will affect listener hours, and it will lower consumer satisfaction, potentially to the point of replacement with a competitor product (all of whom support this feature). The widget is already designed, and already coded, it costs you no time or development resources to put it back. Why would you remove a feature that increases usability?

If I'm driving, I want quick and visible to just reach out and control from my home screen widget; not have to drag down the  notification bar, scroll down to Spotify, and carefully control there without closing the notification bar, swiping closed the notification, etc. While driving, it requires significantly more distracting work, and you can't always have auto mode up on the main display, say, if you are running navigation, are an Uber or Lyft driver, etc. Now, I'm only using Spotify at home. In the car, I'm only using apps with a widget.

It looks like currently you're trying HARD to alienate paying customers.... BRING BACK THE WIDGET!

What is wrong with you people? Obviously thousands of users use the Android widget every single day. It's part of the convenience of the program and why we pay you money. Why would you make an "update" that REDUCES functionality? Who would approve such a thing? Please reinstate the widget immediately. What does it cost you, if the code already exists? You would think you would check with your users before hamstringing your entire app. I might cancel over this, Amazon Music still has a widget. Pulling down the notification bar is an obnoxious extra step, who thought making the app LESS convenient and quick to use was a worthwhile idea?

What the frick are you guys doing? Bring it back immediately.

Look. I know you aren't good with features. In all these years you've still not managed to solve the challenge (being sarcastic here) of queueing playlists. Things we had in the age of Winamp. Seriously.

But this takes a whole new level, since you actually have to put some effort into having it removed. Please don't act like this big crappy corp that doesn't focus on the users.

Please bring it back.

Skärp er, va fan.

Good job Spotify, you needlessly removed a useful feature. Glad you're taking such bold steps to enrich our lives /s

Very sad about your removal of the widget. That was quite unexpected. Used it daily when commuting.

It would have been great to hear the reasoning behind this decision. As long as no official statement is available I think this probably comes very close to the real reason behind it https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/spotify-advertising-widget-duncan-bayne/

Please re-introduce the widget! Thank you.

Edit: Hahaha. Incredible. Our yearly subscription is renewed tomorrow. Just was able to cancel in time. Tidal it is. Thanks for years of entertainment, but the last months just did not bring any innovation/improvement but UX annoyances.

This is BS guys. Please add the widgets back. I use them daily just like thousands of others if not more. I have no idea why you all would even consider the widget removal to be something anyone wanted or asked for. This is spotifys version of removing the headphones jack and frankly it sucks. No one asked for this, this makes YOUR product less easier to manage, why would you want to make things less easier? This isn't a good call. Someone needs to acknowledge that , correct it , and let's move on. Don't let this become a "thing". I'm not kidding when I say I will consider dropping my family plan all together if you all don't figure this out soon. You'll thank me later. You're welcome.
