[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Honestly starting to get angry with all of these updates. Every update just removes more useful features. Last time it was the amount of songs in my playlists that disappeared, now the widget that I use every day? Next update might as well remove the music from the app, that way the widget is no longer needed.

The reason why I exclusively used the widget is because Spotify does NOT provide an option to turn album art off on the lock screen.

A lot of album art is extremely innapropriate and I don't want my children seeing it.

The only way to disable album art is to disable Spotify notifications on the OS level, which prevents changing tracks in the notification drawer. (Hense why I need the widget)

If you're going to stick with the decision to remove the widget, then atleast provide an option to disable album art on the lock screen.

Spotify: You guys are insane. How about NOT removing features your customers are using? I am currently listening to Amazon Music which has a very nice widget. Even Apple Music (which I also downloaded today due to this removal of your Spotify Widget) has not ONE but TWO Android Widgets. Pandora, which I also logged into today for the first time in YEARS, has a widget as well. So far I'm liking Amazon music. The widget is very nice. I have signed up for a 30 day trial of Amazon Music. I will be CANCELLING my Spotify Family Subscriptions at the end of the Amazon Music Trial if 1) the Spotify widget is not back, 2) we do not receive an apology from Spotify for their inebriated decision to remove this critical feature for Android users.

Turned Spotify notifications off so that my lock screen wouldn't keep changing to the album cover I'm listening to. This is just a ploy to force me to turn Spotify  notifications back on.

Every other music app I use has a widget - Pandora, Google Music, etc - now there's a hole where Spotify used to be. This was a fast way to start playing when leaving the house - a single press. Seems a bad decision to remove something useful, something is consistent with the Android usability guides.

The last thing I posted in here, the split screen for iPad took YEARS to get rectified......

This was a feature that WAS ALREADY THERE and you took it away???? That is what makes Android great, widgets, i love them. If wanted dumb icons I would have bought an iPhone. Is that what this is? Dumbing down the android app, to match the **bleep** 12 year old static ios GUI?

Seriously bone headed move spotify. I am getting an apk of the last Working version. So I can have my music widget screen back, complete and whole.... Local music player widget, pocketcasts widget, Spotify widget and Audio book widget.

All the other music apps have widgets, maybe they want my money? What a stupid surprise to wake up to.

Hello,

This feature is essential to the enjoyment of your application. Please reinstate the widget. Thank you for listening to your longtime fans and users.

Idea to removedoesn't make any sense. Does not enhance user experience it degrades it.

Removes useful functionality for what appears to be a straightforward feature to maintain.

First time I've ever even looked on this forum. Just one thing to say. Why? Why remove a feature that works just fine and adds convinience. Please bring it back what a silly move
