Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

This was a great functionality that I've used every day since I got the app. I can't believe that it's been removed and I'm going to start looking around for alternatives.

This is hilarious, there are 72 pages of negative comments here and another 53 on the thread about the "android widget removal" page. You guys say "We’re pouring our energy into new ways of creating the best experience for our users." Can someone explain how is removing a feature that this many people use and the people who dont use can just not add it to their homescreen improves my experience. When did you guys ever remove an optional feature and people were happy. Remember when you guys had all the lyrics to a song and not just the "behind the lyrics" **bleep** on the phones, because I do.

Spotify declaring a strong idea as "Not Right Now" over a very small & simple functionality that comes with a huge convenience is such a slap in the face to their passionate and loyal users who care about the service just as much as they do. When did the little things stop mattering to you? Because it matters to us

Absolute joke. Shouldn't you test this "great" idea with your audience before implementing it!
And calling reinstating the widget a new idea is a laugh. You removed it then you ask your customers to vote for something what was here before.
Guys, sort yourselves out and think twice, before making changes which will affect many thousands of people.
I would like to take a moment and congratulate the product manager who handled this decision!

Putting my money where my mouth is. I am cancelling my spotify pro account over this issue.

1/17/2016 is the date i first paid 9.99 and have been a semi happy customer the whole time. But this is a deal breaker for me. My 9.99 payment is now going to amazon music who has a widget. This issue is reminicent of steve ballmer and windows removal of the start menu. Im sure you will bring it back, but dont wait to long you should stop the hemorrhaging.

This is a totally insane decision. You've made the service considerably less user friendly. I use the widget daily. The fallback takes more effort, is more complicated and inconsistent. If it doesn't come back, I'm off. Ridiculous thinking. How do you think removing a key component is any part of an upgrade especially when all of your competition has widgets? Please bring back soon so I don't have to start porting all of my playlists to Google music.....

Whomever thought removing the Spotify widget needs to be fired. I’ve never heard of anything as ridiculous as this.

Bring back the widget! You can even keep the notifications option too, but at the very least give people the option!
