[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

This just makes no sense and is making things way more difficult than needed

Why not reintroduce it? That's terrible! You just take it off and users are discontent! We want the widget back right now!!!!!😠

So, what do you guys recommend if I'm changing from Spotify? Tidal? Others?

Is it possible to transfer playlists from one app to another?

Bring it back. What were you thinking? The widget has double functionality for me. It serves as a shortcut to the app - and when it's playing it's how I control my music. The notification can't do this. I simply cannot fathom this level of stupidity...

This was terrible mistake and weird way from Spotify to handle their things. Instead of developing and getting the app better they've clearly chosen the way of devolution.

Im from ios-users, so this won't affect me at all, but I don't understand removing very handy feature and by doing this it will surely affect and upset thousands and thousands of loyal customers.

There's no valid reason or benefits in removing feature that people use and like.

I definitely voted for this one. Spotify should wake up and fix this thing by bringing the widget back.

This is yet again one of the cases, where Spotify almosts wants their clients to go elsewhere and they've done this previously. Maybe they should ask users opinions, and experiences before doing such removals?

Im not yet sure what to do, but based on the last couple years experiences they've seriously started to lose it to other competitive streaming-services as it's all gone backwards. I think I cannot do anything else but go to some other service and recommend others to do it aswell as we don't know what kind of changes they have coming.

@Carrow, I tried Ubiquity Music Widget, but it conflicts with Podcast Addict, which I had to install because Spotify also has ignored thousands of requests to let users sort the "all unplayed podcasts" queue oldest to newest, and because Spotify also doesn't carry quite a few popular podcasts available on nearly every other app.

Disappointed. I used the widget to play music without having to open the app from the icon. Return the widget please. If you do not return in the next few days, I will study the deezer.

Just as I was getting past the failings of the recent app redesign, we get this.

I don't want it to get less and less convenient to access my music easily on my phone, so I guess Spotify has reached the end of its usefulness.

When alternatives exist, why make it worse? Poor work from the design and UX team.

That's a pretty crummy response, Spotify! Your entire user base is saying, "Hey! I was using that! Give it back!" and your response is, "Shut up. You can't have it." Nice. Maybe it's time to explore what Amazon Music has to offer since I'm paying for it, anyway.
