Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Yep, I've seen the explanation that the recent decisions are purely to push advertisements to all users, including paying ones.

The more Spotify can spread out what you listen to, the better licensing deals it can make to expand its library, and the fewer royalties it will have to pay to the biggest artists.

So, the galaxy brains at Spotify came up with the perfect solution: force customers to use the app a certain way by making the other ways worse. Screw up the library, get rid of the widget, and no doubt they've got more in store.

After using spotify for years... This is by far the dumbest thing they have done... Im canceling my subscription and moving over to pandora... They may not be the best but hey the got a widget. Having the widget makes it alot easier especially for those that use their phone with gloves on.. R.i.p spotify

And by the way, when I emailed the """executive team""" about the UI update, one of my concerns was the process at the company that lead to screwing up how many people use the app to begin with. Sure, if they were telling the truth about really caring and working on addressing complaints (ha!) and the app is fixed, what's to stop them from getting another dumb idea, ignoring or skipping testing, and pushing it through anyway? We'd just be back with a less functional app waiting and hoping for them to fix it.

I thought that might happen a year or so down the line, but here we are a few weeks later, and they removed the widget.

Adding my voice to those discontented with the removal of the Spotify Widget player. It should be brought back asap. Removing it seems like a very poor and not well thought out decision, and not supporting bringing it back even with all these votes/posts even worse. You caught so many people off with this, there are even news articles on the surprise and discontent.

Also, your timing is terrible as I'm just rediscovering the Rhapsody/Napster app and all my forgotten music on there. And guess what, they have a widget (like every other music player app available).

Oh, and one more thing:

IF they bring the widget back, I predict that it will be made worse in some significant way. Maybe you won't be able to repeat a playlist, so when it ends, Spotify will get to push its suggestions to you. Heck, they might even make it so that once you touch the widget, you're just playing suggested tracks one after the other, "for your continued listening convenience" or some other corporate marketing nonsense like that.

That way, instead of users getting upset that they messed with the widget, they think users will just be happy that the widget was brought back.

Let me say first I enjoy and use Spotify daily as a Rideshare Driver and this is the reason I'm writing this comment; the Spotify Widget is an amazing tool to have when navigating my phone while driving. It's removal unimaginable to me and should be returned on your next update.

Thanks to Spotify completely ignoring the requests of it's paying customers, I will be cancelling my premium account August 31. I suggest every other premium customer join me in voting with our wallets and cancel the same day.

My entire family uses this widget.  The shade screen does not give me a short cut to restarting my music.   I have not used your app since the widget disappeared.   I hope you bring it back so I can be a family subscriber again.
