[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

This isn't a brand new idea for Spotify, they had this widget ~2 weeks ago. How the latest update unorganizing your artists, playlists and removing shuffle all affected removing the Android widget entirely is beyond me.

Going to hold out one more update before taking my music elsewhere...

Wouldn't have gone thru with the update if I knew it was removing the widget!!! This is a huge and extremely unwelcome change to the way I use Spotify. Please bring it back!!! The notifications control function is problematic, and goes away if the music is paused. It is not an equal substitute for the widget.

Sigh. Yet another well-loved feature that Spotify has removed. I understand that supporting functionality costs money, but you keep stripping away interesting features that set you apart, while your competitors are constantly working to add more. Relying on your brand isn't going to work forever, I'm sorry but you're not Kleenex. Apple Music is going to take that prize soon enough.

First it was 3rd party plugins, then the (good) friend feed, then in-app sharing and better collaborative playlists, and now it's the widget. Let's see, what's next? Collaborative playlists altogether? Discovery Weekly, because now you have the "daily mix" and it's "redundant"? I don't really care about the thirty different ways you're pushing me to "radio" style playlists, Pandora already does that better. I've voted and commented every time an awesome feature was yanked, and nothing has ever come back despite how many votes and comments it gets. Spotify doesn't care about user feedback, it hasn't in years.

So... who get the idea to remove the most used and usefull widget for many spotify users? If it don't come back in few days, be sure I will cancel my subscribe & go for an other music app.
I love many Spotify things, but this widget was too usefull to be canceled. My user experience was 8/10, now it's 3/10. Really.

The widget made Spotify special, my home screen was beautiful.! I used it every day...

Not sure on what to do now... Spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to rollback to older version of Spotify... Or spend a couple of hours testing the competition!

You may see it as redundant however if we wanted service providers to dictate how we use their service, we'd own Apple. Bad move, Spotify.

I'm very unhappy that they yall took away the widget for android....just like other users I hardly opened the app unless to search for something new or a new playlist....I switch to spotify from google music and loved it and now I'm thinking about going back to google music where the have a widget.....I like widgets makes using certain apps easier...I refuse to go to apple because they dont support widgets....so until yall bring back your widget ik switching back to google play music.

KentSmith

Can't believe you removed the widget!  Used it all the time.  Bring it back!

glavanator

I don't understand why the decision was made to remove the widget. It is extremely irritating that there is no plan to bring it back. Why remove an option like this?

Vincent_Alucard

Bring the widget back T___T
