[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Stop ignoring your faithful users and bring back the widget. It's not redundant, we use it all the time. It's one of the best features about the app.

So, in just FIVE DAYS this idea has positioned into the top10 of the most voted ideas throughout all time.

And here you are... Without making any move. In fact, you are being so **bleep**ing quiet that you haven't even provided a reason in the first justifying the widget removal.

I expect someone gets fired for this. I really mean it. This is no for removing the widget, this is for the shameful response.

Spotify Subscription: Not Right Now

Switching to other streaming service: New Idea

I'm setting my spare phone to continually play spotify 24/7 so they have to pay the artists on my Playlist. I recommend everyone does this till they bring back the widget! (or your subscription expires as mine will not be renewed)

10k votes and counting in 3 days, I guess they won't move until 1 million. Pathetic..

Bring the widget back! The notifications panel controls only work once you have already started playing, so it's not equivalent to having the widget which is always conveniently available. This is a step in the wrong direction!

Can you at least give us a reason  as to WHY you removed the widget? Was it too difficult to maintain? Caused too many support tickets?  I used the widget every single day.  And I dont want player controls added to my notification area; it's busy enough as it is.

Decisions like this are what made me not update my spotify app on my device for a year and a half.  Got a new phone and thought this time I'd give you a chance to not screw things up with each update. Looks like I'll be back to just not updating the app again.

I am upset enough about the widget removal that i am seriously considering going back to another music app that has one. I used it every single day! How can you not have the stats to see that people were actively using the widget?! Totally not cool Spotify! And your answer of "not at this time" shows you have no real concern for the people who PAY FOR and use your service. Not good business at all!

It's a pretty stupid choice to remove the widget. What prompted this action? Why would you want to direct people to be forced to in-app interaction or through the notification bar. Both require additional clicks in order for your audience to use your product.
