[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

  • Would have been nice if you would have informed every user about the removal on the play store update page!(German play store) Many users wrote in their reviews of the app that the widget is gone and don't even know that you retired the function officially. The feedback to this decision would be most likely be much bigger here if everybody knew what is going on

Status Update: Widget

We here at Spotify understand your pain over the "retired" widget and due to overwhelming support we want to let all our paying customers to know that's we don't give a "bleep" and y'all can just go fly a kite! 😉💩

Yup, that's what it feels like! "Stick it in and break it off."

Dear Guido,

What and how many exactly is the "necessary amount of votes" needed?

Not right now?! Not right now?? Then I guess I'll won't continue my subscription of 5 years right now.

I think I may cx my premium service..it's just inconvenient to use the service now. I was an all day listener before...bad move...

Its at 10,000 votes already.

Just move to Deezer and let Spotify devs keep eating glue. In the meantime, feel free to spam their twitter re:widget.

Spotify needs to be remembered as the company that failed to provide. Make sure the world knows and their twitter has nothing but widget complaints on it.

Since they started removing notifications for followed artists' new releases, Spotify just kept on disappointing me over and over.

Stayed still, because I couldn't think the company that started this all could become lame and that arrogant but the widget removal just opened my eyes.

You guys think it's just a widget thing, well I think it just confirms what I was trying to reassure myself about and a good revelator of how you handle business and treat your customers now.

Been great, then good and finally not so much. Bye.

Why was this removed? Unless there was a security problem with it doesn't cost you anything to leave in a feature that has already been implemented. Unless this is brought back, I will be switching streaming services

  • I have been a premium subscriber for several years. Primarily because of the music catalog which (as an alumni of the music industry (many years with bill graham presents) i knew was extraordinary. I certainly was not kept as a customer because of the ux for any Spotify software, Android app included, which is ... well i want to say pure garbage for the most part. Its so bad that I have given thought to writing my own client. The one usable aspect of the Spotify experience on Android was the widget which spotify has been short sighted enough to kill off. its not the first time a red flag has been raised that something is definitely off within spotify, but it will be the last i am willing to tolerate. Spotify has decided i do not need access to the widget, the one usable part of the service not cluttered with brain dead attempts to recomend music (as if i need suggestions on that from the likes of spotify, or their sad algorithms). Removing the widget is the last straw considering how thoughtlessly it was done. Its a stupid move. I will respond then in kind and will be canceling my premium membership, and uninstalling spotify across devices. Since Spotify thinks I don't need the widget, I think Spotify must not need my money or support going forward.
