[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

You can download an old .apk file and use the widget as usual. Don't forget to disable Spotify updates and never update their app again.

Deezer is one of the most popular platforms to switch to, along with Apple Music. Others have had good experiences with Google Play Music/YouTube Music, and Tidal has been specifically compared to Spotify when it was still good.

Wonderful Swedes, now they are pushing politically correct equality between iOS and Android, if iOS can not have a widget, Android won't too? Foreign lovers, we are paying for a service and you mutilate it and ignore the users, I hope most users that used the widget do not have low testosterone and leave as me until it returns.

Just had to knock off a star in Google Play. Sorry, but other music's apps include widget controls.  Amazon Music, Apple Music (on Android!!!), Audible, Google Play Music, VLC, etc...  It's kind of expected.

I used Running Mode all the time and that went away.  Now the widget is gone too!  What's next, Custom playlists???  Geez guys... Spotify used to be great!!!!

UPDATE:

The widget is back, Sep 8, 2019. Thank you for bring the widget back. I am happy you did. I am no longer looking to take my business elsewhere.

Worst update so far! The widget was removed and now when I do actually go through the process to unlock my phone, open the app and select something to play it only plays for a few songs before stopping. This makes me have to repeat the process again. Every couple of songs. It is BS! After that for Spotify to say they don't see a need to do anything about it and we can just deal with it? That sounds like a big GFY to me. I will be putting this out on all social media platforms and I encourage you to do the same. I hope that gets their attention.

So there are 100+ pages of comments complaining about the widget being removed. Each page holds 10 comments, so over 1,000 comments - even if you assume that each user commented twice, that's 500 users in less than a week upset enough to actually say something and, if they're like me, have switched to a different service. And that's ignoring the customers who cancelled without saying anything.

@Sir_ Bissel okay, so let's say that this change has cost them 10,000 subscribers.  That means their subscriber count has dropped from ~ 100,000,000 to ~ 99,990,000.

The remaining 99,990,000 Premium subscribers are now forced to open the Spotify app to start playing music.

And that's where this change starts making sense: Spotify has started serving ads (sorry, 'announcements' to use their term) to Premium users.  Those users will now be exposed to the ads, as they're opt out, presumably improving Spotify's revenue figures no end.

tl;dr: this is just a play to drive up advertising revenue.

I will be cancelling my Spotify. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard
