[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

"Why are you cancelling your subscription?"

"You took away the widget, I'm taking away my money."

I was complaining to Spotify Support, they cut me off.  Goodbye Spotify.

Wow, sure are a lot of comments here, and no Spotify employees in site! At least after the super awesome "not right now" update.

Again, it is astounding that someone at Spotify collects a paycheck to be the community manager. What do they do all day?

Well, my time has run out, and I have canceled my family subscription. I have moved to Deezer Family Plan (the same price as Spotify) and have also given YT Prem a shot because I get a 4-month FREE trial which who the heck can argue with that.

Why go, YT Prem? Well, because it is now AD-FREE and they allow for playing of videos in the background. I listen to a lot of mixes which are at least an hour long. I get that with no ads which for me can't be beaten.  My commute to work is long and generally do not change my playlist often

The app is clean, and I like the simplicity of the UI.

It has a WIDGET = BASIC ANDRIOD FUNCTIONALITY.

Sound quality is on point and no buffering when connecting to my Bluetooth in my car or on my headset connected to my helmet.  I ride motorcycles, so I don't need to spend every waking second within the app, getting things going. If I need to change a song, it needs to be within the least amount of time spent within the app. Widgets exist for this purpose.

Easy to save songs and create a playlist within the app.

Songs have lyrics that I can follow along with (Spotify REMOVED this function.)

Also has a SoundHound like feature that lets me find a song playing around me.

My friends in the words of the Founder of Deezer

"To be successful, a product must meet a personal need."

Daniel Marhely FOUNDER

Spotify no longer meets my personal need and therefore, will no longer get any of MY money. Goodbye!

Zonda26

Well that is a stupid idea from your side. Many of us use that feature everyday.

Jimar M:
Hey Michael! Let me provide you more details regarding the current updates we've made in Spotify.

Jimar M:
We've made some changes in the app and one of them is removing the widget. But it doesn't mean that you won't be able to use properly your app. You can still use the playback notification in your devices, as well as the regular Now Playing view in the app.

Michael Yusko: I don't care about the updates, myself and over 13,000 people, want the widget back!!!
Michael Yusko: The widget was how I primarily used the app.
Jimar M:
I totally understand your thoughts on this one. I've noticed that you've already made a suggestion comment in our page just like what the previous agent advice you.

Jimar M:
We really appreciate it.

Michael Yusko: Or don't you guys look at the forums and all the people cancelling their subscriptions?
Michael Yusko: 13,037 votes as of now.
Jimar M:
Our developer is always checking those suggestions in the forums. We don't have any specific details yet when will the changes can be reverted back.

Michael Yusko: The fact there has been no further response from Spotify, makes me wonder about how much you care about and listen to your customers.
Jimar M:
But we really appreciate the feedback that we receive from you guys. It means a lot for us so we can improve the app. Without your feedback, we won't be able to know the things that we need to improve.

Michael Yusko: If there is a plan to roll back, great, tell us! Otherwise, I'll be joining the ranks of those who are cancelling. Amazon Music still has a widget and it's already part of my Prime subscription.
Jimar M:
We don't have roll out for this one. I do respect your decision on this one if you really want to switch over from another company.

Michael Yusko: Apple Music has a widget for Android!!!! APPLE!!!!!!
Jimar M:
I see. Don't worry, they're currently reviewing those details you're providing on our forum page.

Jimar M:
Is there anything else that I can do for you?

Michael Yusko: Ya know what, then maybe they can respond and let us know. 13,000+ votes from your users deserves a bit more of a response than the write off we got a week ago.
Michael Yusko: People are angry. I'm angry.
Jimar M:
Sorry if you felt that way. If there will be any changes again in the app. It will not be immediate as this needs to roll out to all of our customers all around the world. We want to make sure that it will be compatible to other devices as well so it may really take time.

Jimar M:
I appreciate for sending these feedback and that you're concerned with Spotify improvement.

Jimar M:
Thanks Michael!

Wow! Spotify really don't seem to care that removing features for premium subscribers is losing them revenue.

As for adding back in a feature that they just removed not being immediate, come on! It was in the second last update!!! As for being worried about device compatibility, they are joking right? Remove the widget from thousands of people who were using it happily, and claim to be cautious about adding back in because a handful of people might have an incompatible device? Really?

Virdoz

Its a BS answer from a BS company. Money is the only thing that will talk. No amount of upvotes and no amount of post will change anything if I want to listen to Spotify ill deal with ads until my other platforms are up and running to my liking.  That conversation above shows just how little they give a **bleep** — scripted answers from scripted brainless twats.

Adagio

It's annoying. I use spotify while driving. But when I get a call (on bluetooth) the app usually closes. So after the call ends I'd usually restart the music by using the widget. Now I either need to drive in silence or fumble through my app drawers to find the app, and then play it from there which I'd really not like to do, because it's dangerous and illegal.

I don't know why you guys are trying to downgrade. Even the cheap inbuilt music player has a widget. This is very stupid, ruining my whole experience and messing up my phone layout. I don't know why you would do that. I saw someone say that it's to mimic ios but if wanted an iOS experience I would have bought an iPhone (btw they have itunes  so why would you care anyway). When will you start taking into consideration your customers' opinion. This is just ridiculous at this point.
