[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

> Why did they get rid of it to begin with?

Because #SpotifyDoesntCare - they don't listen to their customers, and
don't really care what any of us think. That's why they don't talk with
us, they just send us the same useless messages over and over saying "we'll
pass this along to the right people" - but "the right people" either don't
exist or they don't want to talk to their paying customers.

Spotify is basically showing the world how not to do customer service.
They ignore their customers and just do whatever they want, while using
semi-automated messages to try to placate the customers who aren't paying
attention.

I have little doubt that I'll receive a "personal" message from them after
this post hits telling me the same thing I've been told about this 4 times
already - that the widget was removed, but that I can use the notification
to control Spotify playback - because they don't even bother to READ the
message that prompts them to contact you directly in the first place.

But that's OK, because they'll "let the right people know" - which clearly
means "we've sent your complaint to the bitbucket because it's easier to
ignore our angry customers than to actually do things that would delight
them and make them feel that the money they spend with us is money well
spent".

Their customer engagement model completely sucks, and they need to address
it.

@hendersj That's precisely why you stop paying. I want to see their stock drop because that's the only thing that will get them even to consider. What people don't know or don't realize is that 91% of the revenue that Spotify makes is directly from subscriptions.

There are way too many options out there for customers to move to another platform where they will be appreciated, and the idea's, thoughts and wants are taking into consideration and when a company like Spotify has an apparent disdain for the people who keep the company going its time to make our money elsewhere.

I'm unsurprised to see it's all about adverts.  I don't pay for premium services to have promoted stuff shoved in my face (or see/hear ads).  Folks; Spotify's on a money-grab, they won't be reinstating the widget as it means users aren't going into the main app itself.

Do what I and evidently many, many others have done - bin off your premium subs and head to another service.  I've moved to TIDAL and it's been great so far (the sound quality improvement is remarkable with lossless!).

Make your point by taking your money elsewhere.

Bring the widget back. Updates should be done to make Spotify better... Not worse! Get your s*** together please. Thanks.

MSGA!

Bring the widget back!

Currently in an email chain with Spotify support. They remain unwilling or unable to explain why they removed it, what their plans are to address the issue (if they even plan on doing that at all), and no matter how many times I ask, they can't provide a single example of when removing a feature made Spotify better, despite that being one of their cut & paste responses whenever features are removed.

You all deserve better than to use Spotify.

Changing status to "new idea"? You are behaving as if you deliberately want to upset your users.

The right way to do it is to apologize for not understanding the widgets usefulness and to immediately bring it back. Done!

As for trying to keep Android and iOS versions in sync and looking the same -- just don't do it! Users on the different platform have completely different expectations, just follow the respective guidelines and make the best of each. Right now Spotify is getting more and more bleak, like a bad web app...

That's incredible. Spotify continues to change for the worse. How many times have they had to go back in their steps after the users' complaints? Too much. Instead of adding new features, they remove old ones. That's crazy and frustrating...

I would like to not vote on a widget being added as a new idea. But vote on the widget being removed as a very dumb idea. Just couldn't find the very dumb and stupid ideas section.

This isn't cool....taking away a feature we've had for years....I personally don't like car view at all and my widget was the most convenient/safe way to control my spotty thru bluetooth on my head unit...very unhappy with this change and not seeing any upside or advantages to it being removed!!! Don't wanna have to start looking into other services as I'm a longtime family plan subscriber to Spotify, but I mean come on peoples....this makes a-zero-none-nada sense y'all!!!!
