[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

While there are other methods or 'workarounds' listed, these don't always work. I'd venture to say that they don't work MOST of the time as the play/pause in the shade and lockscreen don't do anything even after multiple interactions. 

 

From a purely UX POV on device - how does two steps (unlock, play) get beat out by four steps (unlock, open app, select playlist, play)? 

 

I want to give Spotify the BOTD and hope that they will add it back. Otherwise, there are other services.

Why remove a feature that you don't need to use if you don't want to? I mean clearly this feature was loved by all android users including me but I really don't understand why you would remove a feature which will literally have no bearing on the app for someone that didn't use it. It has literally just upset everyone that did use it.... absolutely crazy!

Hey thanks Spotify for making it harder for me to get to my music. Until now I was a happy customer,  now not so much. Maybe I'll start spending my money somewhere else. Thanks for the incentive!

I've  been a Spotify premium member for almost 10 years. The widget was the only thing that made Spotify usable on my Android. Cancelling my subscription today.

why in the **bleep** would u take away the android widget in the first place??? did anyone complain about the widget?? I think not!!! and then replace it with a stupid swipe down notification which u can't do anything with except hard press on it it open the app. Let me ask u a question..... how dangerous do u think it is the duplicate what I just said while driving down the road,????? I think that u quys didn't get rid of it, I beleive android made u cut it out just like all the other things android is cutting out FROM LETTING US CUSTOMIZE "OUR OWN" PHONES ALTOGETHER. it's like we r all robots and being directed what to like and what we should have on our phones!!!! what next?? tell us what music u think we should listen to! what a bunch of bull$h-t!!!!!
