[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

How much money does it save you in annual dev costs, by not having to support a widget any more?

Will be cancelling my subscription if this is not resolved soon. Started a YouTube premium subscription trial. Spoiler alert: it works as a widget that you can run while working in other apps via overlay.

 

At least they are not idiotic enough to disable a core feature to lose customers and then use it as a negotiation tool that needs to be voted to be prioritized in backlog. My guess is they found a security bug or they will reintroduce this feature as an even higher tier premium up sell.

 

Their product manager should be embarrassed with caving on this.

 

Update: in just 1 week, this is the 6th highest voted request of all time for spotify (currently 12k votes),  just under 5000 votes from the top requested item of all time (17K votes). Terrible to see that Spotify does not use data to drive decision making. I wonder if they are simply ignoring their customers and looking to reduce the number of paid subscription members.

I CAN'T EVEN WITH THE WIDGET BEING GONE! THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF ANDROID'S! IT'S LIKE YOU'RE CATERING TO IPHONE USERS ONLY! WHY WOULD YOU TAKE SOMETHING AWAY THAT WAS THE BEST PART. WILL BE SWITCHING TO PANDORA IF IT'S NOT BACK IN A MONTH. I'VE HAD SPOTIFY FOR 6 YEARS. NOW THEY **bleep** ME OFF. .. BRING THE WIDGET BACK NOW

I hate using the notification bar for controlling my music player. My phone doesn't have a huge screen and the player in the notification takes too many space. 
The widget was really convenient and could also act like a shortcut to the app, even if the it wasn't running.
Don't understand why someone would take the decision to remove that...

It's been long enough that this should have been re-added now, so the fact that it's still absent leaves me no choice but to summise that the widget is staying dead. RIP the widget, and also my premium subscription.

Time to sign up to a few free trials and shop the market.

Why the **bleep** would you remove such a popular feature? 

 

Having instant and easy access to the app via the widget was one of the main features for me. Swiping down the notification screen is not a good option.

 

I will be looking at alternate apps as this is a key feature and is a big loss.

I created and verified my account to specifically add to the 107 pages of comments telling you this was a really dumb idea. Add the **bleep** widget back.
