[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

I'll never understand the reasoning of it being a "not right now" priority when the widget was removed for not one single good reason. Sure you can just re add the existing one since it wasn't causing any issue.

I really loved the feature and used it all the time. Seeing it gone makes me feel a mix of angry and sad to be quite honest. 😞

Also, why can't I shuffle through all of my songs any more?

Hey Guys! A free version of SpotWidget is now available as SpotWidgetX. You can just install the App, and the widget is back!

Features:
* Installing the App, you will find the widget ready to be added to your homescreen as if it was never removed.
* SpotWidgetX can launch Spotify in background even if it's not active or doesn't have an active notification.
* The widgets are resizeable.

Extras:
* Dark mode.
* Additional play back controls - fast forward/backward (by 10 seconds), in case of play list you can quickly toggle shuffle, repeat off, repeat once, repeat all.

I am really glad the widget is gone.  Removing it made me explore Apple Music and I haven't looked back.

This case will be in books in the future as "how to destroy your own app" or "how to put ads, the wrong way", maybe both... How to lose users by: removing a future that many people use; destroy an app experience; how to create an ecosystem and destroy it with a bad decision.

i used this widget almost every day and i miss the big hole in my interface. please have a rethink and bring it back. it was more useful to us than you seem to think.

My spotify updated today and now the widget is gone. Please bring it back.

You took away something ppl used - and is a basic function of any real commercial app. That's...so..  I... I have no words.

Thisbis currently the top idea in the Spotify ideas of the month, 12000 above the second best, thats if I'm reading it correctly. XD

On a serious note.

I genuinely am confused and would love to get legitimate feedback from Spotify on this.

Why take something away that was there did work.

And saying "most of our customers didn't actually use it" is like saying "lets take away the filter at traffic lights. It's not strictly nescasary, costs a lot of money and statistically most people don't use it"

I get it. You guys run a business. But having a widget gor music players has been a standard since I had my first phone.

Does it improve cross platform development time? I read somewhere that it was to make the app more like *hack* apple.

I genuinely cant see any reason to remove it from a technical standpoint.

I can't imagine Spotify is short on cash?

I recently switched from Google Play Music. Transferred all my songs and litterely this month cancelled the subscription, because the features were lacking and the search was **bleep**(ironic from Google no? But the same thing with their keyboard.) Features matter. Because the sound quality on GPM was better than spotify, as I understand.

The month I switched... You took this away.

Makes me half regret this. This is your first impression.
