[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Would you just bring the widgets back, will you!

Sander_Koop

Why. Why. Why. The widget was my main interface with Spotify on my phone. I want everything I use regularly available on my home screen. Hence a widget! Now I need to perform an extra action. And I can't access the full app as quickly as before. Stupid, stupid idea. Give me back my widget!!!

When the widget is there, I look at the device, I see what's playing, I go back to my activity. Now, with the widget gone, I have to drop what I'm doing and interact with my device to see what's playing. STUPID ****ING IDEA. Apps are supposed to make tasks EASIER, not HARDER. I'll grant you, the widget hasn't exactly been working flawlessly of late (probably because of Google's constant efforts to restrict Android development), but something is better than nothing. BRING THE WIDGET BACK.

Do you know what?  A widget would be a fracking awesome idea.  Sounds like something that would be incredibly useful and leverage one of the neat features Android provides.

Hello @dj9281 and @OnlyBLACK_ALPHA,

Thanks for getting in touch.

We've retired the Android widget. You can still control Spotify from the Notifications. More info about this change here.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Have a nice day.

@Guido Are you blind to see all the users' complaint? Give the WIDGET BACK!!!

Mennim

no idea where you got this idea from but wow, that would make using the app so much easier, I can't believe Spotify didn't think of this already... /s

My Question or Issue

No widget all of a sudden?  wth?!?!?!?!!!?!!!!!!???

Patorico

By removing the widget Spotify rendered its Android app completely useless for me. I block all notifications, because I have a small phone and the screen is already crowded. Now they try to force me using this annoying notification function again? No thank you. Maybe I should take a look into the competitor Apps.

Plus I don't need the function on the Lockscreen, because I can skip tracks with my headphones. Get your stuff together and bring back the widget.

They simply try to cut maintenance time on the app by removing features, which they think can be removed without a big fuzz afterwards.

This has given me the nudge to sign up for TIDAL.  Guess what; they have a widget for Android!  Woooh!
