[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

  • So you're trying to add features for iPhone and take away features from Android? I'm so **bleep** I literally made an account just to complain. Way to alienate your customer base. With every update you remove useful features and the UI gets worse. My friends have been telling me to switch to Google Play and I think I may finally take their advice.

Seriously? You removed it? Why?! Why don't you concentrate on fixing bugs (like the offline mode bug that requires you to reinstall!!! spotify and download all your music again!!!). Make the product better, instead of making it worse!!

It's already ridiculous the way you handle updates and changes with zero transparancy or care... you are clueless and clearly do not care about your paying cuatomers, certainly not on Android.

Bring the widget back, and make it better (multiple sizes, looks, just single play/pause button option, ... you know useful things that your customers like)!

It was already there! You just added another user step to reaching your app vs just allowing them to have it conveniently on their home screens.

Notifications get pushed down or overlooked. A widget is always available.

Are you sure you want to cancel my premium subscription?

I used this everyday, it makes controlling the app easy with a single press rather then pulling down the notification bar to change song or pause. BRING BACK THE WIDGET PLEASE!

Ok so it's about money, of course. They wouldn't deliberately be so stupid to just remove the widget without an ulterior motive (show ads to paying users, aka having the cake and eating it too).

So what's going to happen now is that us Android users will keep complaining for a bit. Some of us will cancel subs, some will accept the crappier UI.

Money steers the course either way.

If it was worth removing it in a sprint it's worth putting it back in your next one. I've done product management for a decade and removing the widget might be one of the single poorest decisions I've seen in a long, long time.

I used the widget whilst driving everyday while being a premium user. Now that Spotify has decided to take it away, they are responsible for all of my traffic accidents.

Just canceled my Premium family plan. Up until this point I could have been using a cheaper student account, but I loved Spotify and wanted to support the company. No longer. My family will be sending our business to Google.
