[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

@Ulumsk there most certainly is an ulterior motive.  Now that Spotify is serving ads (sorry, "announcements", a.k.a. paid promotions, a.k.a. ads) to Premium customers, they want as many eyeballs as possible in the app to view those ads.  The widget allowed people to play music without opening the app.

Bring it back! Terrible customer satisfaction decision

Looks like there is an ulterior motive here: to force all Spotify users to endure adverts (whether you pay or not)

Why did you delete it ?? Best feature you had! The convenience of carrying on where you left off with one push and no need to open up the app. What a ridiculous thing to remove ?

I understand the need and ambition to update and improve the service, but the past year you've only managed to REMOVE things that I use on a daily basis rather than add anything I'm interested in.

Dumbest. Mistake. Ever.

Which out of touch exec signed off on the widget removal? This was a terrible decision by them and my only hope is that they are removed from the company before they can make any more awful decisions.

I've been using the widget for a few years now and I'm also considering cancelling the subscription. That's very unfortunate.

I'm already in procress of moveing my acoount, haven't had any issue all this year, but this is just to much, good luck spotify.

Removing the widget is a stupid decision.  The lock screen controls and those in the notification area are nowhere near to being an adequate replacement.  The widget is way better than either of those because it's in a pre-defined location of your choice on your phone and lets you choose to launch spotify, see what the current track is or launch spotify and start it playing, all with a single tap.  The other two both need you to find and launch spotify manually first.

I've been a spotify premium (and now family) subscriber for many years and this is by far the worst product development decision that has been made so far.  Plus the way this feedback comment has been treated as a 'new idea' and then 'not right now' is just plain offensive to the existing userbase.

Bring back the widget was a great feature that you did NOT need to remove.

This is not an iPhone so why take away a useful feature, which miss informed person though this would a good idea huh?
